Jack Black Says ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Will Leave Fans “Very Pleased”

The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie is generating a lot of excitement, and fans will soon find out if it lives up to the beloved video game. The trailer revealed the film will be based on the critically acclaimed 2007 game, Super Mario Galaxy. Jack Black, who plays Bowser, has promised the movie is full of hidden details and references that dedicated fans will enjoy.

Speaking with GamesRadar, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri didn’t reveal much about The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, but hinted that fans will be very happy with how closely it follows the original Super Mario Galaxy game. While the first movie drew inspiration from across the Mario franchise, Meledandri assured fans that the new film will include plenty of hidden references and details specifically for those who love the 2007 game, promising a satisfying experience when it releases in 2026.

I can’t reveal any details, but there are a lot of hidden surprises, and fans of the original story will really enjoy how it’s been adapted for the movies.

While The Super Mario Bros. Movie draws heavily from the 2007 game Super Mario Galaxy, it’s likely fans will spot references to other classic Mario titles as well. A recent poster revealed Mario will be traveling to a desert planet reminiscent of the one in 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey. Even though this isn’t directly connected to Galaxy, most fans will likely be thrilled, considering Odyssey is a beloved favorite among Mario games.
