The latest trailer for ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ continues the spooky atmosphere, connecting the stories from two of Stephen King’s most popular novels.
The new horror series is off to a strong start, cleverly expanding on the history of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) and the unsettling events in his past. According to our review, the show deepens the lore of the town and its residents while maintaining a consistently intense and violent atmosphere.
Andy Muschietti has delivered plenty for horror fans, including startling jump scares, gruesome scenes, and nods to the larger Stephen King world the show is set in.
The latest trailer for ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Episode 3 is packed with Easter eggs and references to two popular novels by Stephen King.
It: Welcome to Derry Episode 3 ties into The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption
Viewers who know Stephen King’s stories will recognize Dick Hallorann (played by Chris Chalk) as a character who eventually works as the chef at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. It’s there he encounters Danny Torrance and realizes the boy has special psychic powers.
The latest preview for ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ reveals the military knows about Hallorann’s special skills and is employing him in their search for Pennywise. The trailer also includes a nod to the film ‘The Shawshank Redemption’.
The scene features Hank Grogan (Stephen Rider) in jail, as police believe he’s responsible for the children’s deaths in the very violent theater attack at the end of the first episode. Chief Bowers (Peter Outerbridge) menacingly asks him, “Do you know what they do to people who kill children in Shawshank?” – a clear nod to the famous prison from the movie The Shawshank Redemption.
Interestingly, the character Bowers also connects to Andy Muschietti’s IT films. He’s the grandfather of Henry Bowers, the bully who terrorizes the Losers Club and ultimately falls under Pennywise’s control. It’s clear that Welcome to Derry Episode 3 isn’t shying away from its broader ties to Stephen King’s overall story.
Fans are currently excited about the new trailer and the show itself. One viewer shared, “This is the first horror series I’ve ever watched, and I’m really enjoying it! I appreciate that it’s scary without being overly graphic.”
Viewers were highly impressed with the first two episodes, and they’re even more excited about this new one. One person said it looked “absolutely phenomenal,” while another joked that it was going to be a standout episode.
