It took less than two weeks: the first player conquered the world in Europa Universalis 5. „It looked like absolute hell”

Paradox’s new grand strategy game, Europa Universalis V, came out on November 4th, and incredibly, a player managed to conquer the entire world in under two weeks!

  1. This feat was accomplished by a YouTuber known as ThePlaymaker. He managed to occupy the entire map in the game, so that the Earth was covered solely by his territories and those of his tributaries.
  2. The player initially failed several times in this challenge. In a strategy that ended up working out, he started with Barlas, who later became the Timurids, and eventually formed the Holy Roman Empire. Then his nation switched to Moscow culture, which let them cut neighborhood costs by over 100%.

This accomplishment generated a lot of buzz and feedback. One viewer mentioned they watched the entire gameplay and said it seemed incredibly difficult for most of the time.

Ironman in EU5 still awaits conquest

This challenge is a favorite among players of the game, and it was particularly popular during the fourth version. However, ThePlaymaker’s accomplishment was a bit less demanding. In the game EU4, the challenge wasn’t just about conquering the world – it also had to be done in Ironman mode, meaning players couldn’t save and reload the game, and had to live with the results of their choices.

The YouTuber skipped a certain game mode because he needed to use commands that aren’t allowed in Ironman mode to make the game go faster. A later update, version 1.0.3, fixed this problem. While still an impressive feat, it means no one has officially completed an Ironman world conquest in Europa Universalis 5 yet – the record is still open!
