A famously frustrating enemy from the Super Mario games is expected to cause trouble for the heroes in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Recent trailers for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie reveal that many well-known characters from the games will appear on the big screen.
Familiar faces like Bowser Jr. and Yoshi are returning, along with popular characters such as Birdo and Rosalina. The game will also feature some unexpected, lesser-known characters, including Mouser and Clawgrip. Based on the latest trailer for Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Ukiki will be joining the fun too.
Ukiki Has A History As A Nuisance In The Super Mario Games
I first encountered Ukikis way back in Yoshi’s Island – they’re these little monkeys who are always trying to steal things! They were a nuisance then, always trying to snatch Baby Mario. But honestly, they really became famous for me in Super Mario 64. I’ll never forget when one of them ran off with Mario’s hat! It started this crazy chase sequence that was so much fun, but also really frustrating! They’re definitely memorable little guys.
The Ukiki monkey has become a memorable part of the Super Mario games. Known for constantly throwing things and stealing from players, it’s earned a reputation as a frustrating but beloved character among fans. And it seems the Ukiki in the new movie will be just as mischievous.
The trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shows Ukiki running from Princess Peach and Toad, with a Bomb-omb flying between them. This scene echoes his role in the games, where he often steals from characters and then tries to stop pursuers with Bom-ombs – it looks like he’s done the same thing here, and Peach and Toad are now chasing after him.
Considering how many characters are expected in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Ukiki probably won’t be a major character. However, it seems he’ll have more than just a quick, unimportant appearance.
Okay, so it looks like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is going to lean into what makes Mario, well, Mario! Instead of a huge origin story, he’s kicking things off by getting caught up in a wild chase. And honestly, it’s a brilliant move to bring back Ukiki as the source of all the trouble. If the movie plays it right, Peach and Toad will be just as exasperated with him as Mario was when he lost his hat way back in Super Mario 64. It’s a nice nod to the games and a smart way to build some immediate conflict – and humor!
