As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the ebb and flow of Hollywood’s landscape for decades, I find myself deeply moved by the unfolding events surrounding Blake Lively’s courageous stand against Justin Baldoni’s alleged misconduct. The sheer magnitude of support from her peers, industry veterans, and studio executives speaks volumes about the changing tide in our industry, where victims are no longer silenced and perpetrators held accountable for their actions.
Actor Brandon Sklenar, who stars with Blake Lively in “It Ends With Us”, has stood by her side following her accusations against fellow actor and director Justin Baldoni, which include claims of sexual harassment and a smear campaign.
On Wednesday, Sklenar expressed his concern on Instagram by posting Lively’s sexual harassment allegations against Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios, using the caption “For your sake, please read this.” Sklenar portrayed Atlas Corrigan, who was Lively’s character’s childhood sweetheart in “It Ends With Us.” Sklenar then tagged her with a heart emoji on Instagram.
Sklenar has recently joined a growing list of public supporters for Lively, including Colleen Hoover (author of “It Ends With Us”), members of Lively’s “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” cast, Amber Heard, director Paul Feig, and others.
Sony Pictures, which distributed “It Ends With Us,” released a statement backing Lively.
A representative from Sony Pictures Entertainment previously declared their backing for Blake regarding her contributions to the film. They stand by that endorsement wholeheartedly today. Additionally, they vehemently denounce any attempts to tarnish her reputation. Such actions are unacceptable within our industry and in a respectful society.
SAG-AFTRA backed up Lively’s assertions, expressing “These allegations are shocking and concerning. Workers have the right to voice their worries or file complaints. Retaliation for exposing misconduct or inappropriate behavior is unlawful and unacceptable,” the union declared in a statement. “We commend Blake Lively’s bravery in addressing issues of retaliation and harassment, and her call for an intimacy coordinator for every scene involving nudity or sexual content. This is a crucial move that aids in maintaining a secure filming environment.
Following Lively’s accusations, talent agency WME decided to part ways with Justin Baldoni, as they currently represent Lively as well.
