Have you ever recalled periods when we manually installed games from floppy disks or CDs without any intervening software? I do, but I’m old, though you don’t have to be. Today, with only a few exceptions like GOG, nearly all games come bundled with launchers such as EA App, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and Steam – the most prominent one, boasting numerous millions of users who use it to play new releases, interact in forums, collect achievements, etc. Naturally, it necessitates an account, and security measures are employed to safeguard it. One such measure is Steam Guard, which functions as a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) system, providing an additional shield of protection. However, it can cause issues at times, so if obtaining the code proves troublesome, we’ve got solutions for you.
Steam Guard code issues fix
One common method of rephrasing: Steam is among the most frequently used PC gaming launchers by millions of daily players. As we often own numerous games that collectively hold significant value, losing access to our accounts could be a financially and emotionally distressing experience. To safeguard our accounts from unauthorized access, Steam Guard was implemented. This feature demands a verification code during login, serving as an additional layer of identity confirmation. The code can either be obtained through the Steam app or via email. However, there might be instances when the code fails to work. In such cases, what should you do?
The first thing you should try is to generate a new code. To do that:
- Via email – close the steam app completely and launch it once more to trigger a new message with a fresh code. Make sure to enter the most recent code, as the older ones won’t work! It is always a good idea to wait a moment after triggering the code to make sure that it’s the latest email in your inbox with the code.
- On phone app – a new code generates every 30 seconds, so just wait till a new one appears and try to input it. You have to tap “Show Steam Guard code” in the bottom left corner of the screen while in “Steam Guard” menu in the app.
- QR code – if you have enabled such an option, it is possible to log into Steam by opening the Steam App on your smartphone, tapping a small shield icon in the bottom of the screen, and scanning the code that is visible on Steam’s login window on your PC. This is also the default option of login if it is enabled.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience, but it’s possible that you may not be able to log into your account. If this happens, I would recommend checking out the official FAQ first. In extreme cases, reach out to Steam Support by creating a support ticket. Their team is usually quite responsive, so you should eventually regain access. Good luck!
