As a seasoned gamer with a knack for delving into the intricate world of TV shows and movies, I must say that the casting of Bryan Cranston as Walter White in Breaking Bad was nothing short of a masterstroke. Initially, I too shared the producers’ doubts, having only seen him in comedic roles like Malcolm in the Middle. However, Vince Gilligan’s unwavering belief in Cranston’s potential to excel in a dramatic role proved to be spot on.

Initially, the creators of Breaking Bad were not fond of casting Bryan Cranston. Yet, as it turned out, they were proven wrong when he took on the role of Walter White, leaving viewers in awe and convinced that he was an ideal fit for the character.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the issue with the actor was that his performance in Malcolm in the Middle had typecast him in comedic roles, which contradicted the darker, dramatic vision for Breaking Bad. Additionally, they found it difficult to forget the scene from the first episode of the sitcom where Cranston’s character was shaved, as it didn’t align with the image they wanted to portray for Breaking Bad.

Even though Bryan’s full-body shaving scene from “Malcolm in the Middle” is still vivid in our minds, we found ourselves thinking, “Isn’t there someone else who could have done that?

Vince Gilligan, the creator of “Breaking Bad”, was firmly resolved on casting Bryan Cranston as Walter White. To persuade the executives of his choice, he insisted they watch an episode of “The X-Files” where Cranston played a desperate man affected by radiation poisoning. Gilligan believed that this role demonstrated why Cranston was chosen for “The X-Files”, and likely also influenced his decision to cast him in “Breaking Bad”.

In that X-Files scene, we were looking for an actor capable of delivering both suspenseful drama and a touch of terror, while still conveying a sense of deep empathy. Bryan delivered exceptionally well in this role, making his eventual demise feel truly poignant.

Gilligan confidently showcased Cranston’s talent when casting him for a dramatic part in Breaking Bad. His faith proved justified as Cranston delivered an outstanding performance that earned him multiple honors such as Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

Excitedly enough, I can’t wait for Malcolm in the Middle to be back on the screen! It seems like it’s making a comeback on Disney+, although the exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. But I know for sure that Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek will be reprising their roles in this much-anticipated return!
