ARC Raiders is a shooter where you gather gear, finish missions, and battle both other players and robots. If you manage to escape with what you’ve collected, you keep it. Fail to escape, and you lose everything. This risk is always present, so you need to consider it before starting a new mission. Soon, a feature called ‘The Expedition’ will let you intentionally lose your items for in-game benefits. But is it worth wiping your progress? Probably not – the downsides likely outweigh the advantages.
To wipe or not to wipe in Arc Raiders
In many online games, a “wipe” resets your progress – things like your items, level, and story completion. Games like Once Human use wipes regularly with new seasons. This is done to give everyone a fresh start, introduce new content, and keep the game fair for both new and experienced players.
ARC Raiders offers a way to restart your progress with the Expedition Project. This feature lets you voluntarily reset your character after reaching level 20, providing a prestige system for dedicated players.
There’s a lot of debate about whether starting over each season is actually worth it. The reason is you lose almost everything – your character’s level and abilities, all your gear, any blueprints you’ve unlocked, your progress in quests, and even upgrades you’ve made to your workshop. While you do get some benefits like temporary seasonal bonuses, 12 extra storage slots, unique cosmetic items, and potentially up to 5 skill points, it comes at a cost. Getting all 5 skill points requires earning 5 million coins worth of items or stash space, which can become a repetitive and time-consuming task. For many players, losing all their progress for these rewards doesn’t seem like a worthwhile trade, especially giving up valuable blueprints for skill points and a few extra storage slots.
If you’ve been playing for a long time and are starting to get bored, intentionally starting over could give you fresh objectives to work towards. Plus, the special rewards you earn might feel really valuable and be worth getting. However, we don’t have any details yet about what those rewards will actually look like.
Generally, it’s best to skip the wipe if you’re unsure. But if you’ve played for a long time and are feeling burnt out, or you’re hoping to unlock new skins, then it might be worth considering.
