Luma is portrayed as the most innocent character in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but some viewers believe they unexpectedly used a swear word. People think Luma may have dropped an F-bomb during the film, and now everyone’s wondering if it really happened.
Following the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie three years ago, a new adventure is now playing in theaters. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sends Mario and Luigi on a journey through space, where they encounter familiar faces from the Nintendo universe, like Starfox.
As the story progresses, the characters encounter another member of the Luma species. The first movie featured Lumalee, who was blue, and this new film introduces a yellow Luma who is becoming a key part of the plot.
There’s a key scene in the movie where the young actor gets very emotional. Apparently, they were surprised to ‘finally’ see Princess Peach. But the way they said ‘finally’ sounded a lot like a curse word to many viewers.
Is there actually a swear word in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?
Okay, so I was watching the new movie, and when that little yellow Luma finally finds Princess Peach, it says the line, ‘Princess Peach, I finally found you!’ But here’s the weird thing – right as it says that, the movie kinda stutters, or the sound glitches out for just a tiny second. It was super noticeable, honestly.
A small slip-up in pronunciation can easily change how a word sounds. For example, saying ‘finally’ with slightly off inflection can make it sound like a vulgar phrase beginning with ‘f’.
Honestly, I have a feeling this scene is going to be cut from the movie pretty quickly! I actually jumped in my seat when it played in the theater, and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one who noticed it. It just felt…off.

Okay, so I’m a huge fan of this movie, and I’ve been hearing from other people online that they think they heard a swear word – specifically, a really strong one – in there. Now, logically, this is a kids’ film, so there’s no way something like that actually made it into the script, recording, or final edit. But it’s not just me – lots of us are hearing it, and it’s a little weird!
One user on X praised the Super Mario Galaxy movie, but noted a surprising moment: parents audibly gasped when a character, Luma, unexpectedly swore.
I watched The Super Mario Galaxy Movie last night.
I’m 99% sure the Yellow Luma said the F-word.

Someone else added that they were happy everyone heard Luma accidentally swear, and another viewer said that moment was the funniest part of the entire film.
Nintendo hasn’t commented on the issue, and it’s unclear if they’ll release a revised version of the scene. Right now, everyone’s making fun of it online, but it’s still a good idea to be careful what young children hear in the theater. We wouldn’t want the character Luma to accidentally teach them inappropriate language.
