As a devoted fan of Yellowstone, I find myself utterly bewildered by the unfolding events in Montana. It seems like I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride, and I’m not sure if I want to get off just yet!
It appears there’s some confusion about the future of “Yellowstone” in Montana. Earlier this year, it seemed like the show was wrapping up with a sequel series titled “The Madison” ready to take over. However, a supposed feud between Costner and Sheridan escalated, which seemingly halted the end of the original series. Contrary to expectations, promotional materials for the show refer to season 5B as a “return,” not an ending. Tonight’s episode is being labeled as a “special season finale” on social media, suggesting more episodes might be forthcoming rather than wrapping up the entire series. However, actress Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, seems insistent that the original “Yellowstone” has come to an end.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Reilly shared a farewell video. She penned, “Regardless of what lies ahead, this marks the conclusion of the series we’ve been crafting for the past seven years.” Her statement leaves room for interpretation, especially considering the potential spinoff featuring Reilly and Cole Hauser, which might be a new version of Yellowstone under different executive management and streaming agreements. However, if her departure from the Dutton family is indeed in the cards, she seems prepared to bid them farewell. She expressed gratitude towards Taylor Sheridan for taking a chance on her and writing roles that ignited her acting passion, saying, “Thank you, Taylor.
Let’s examine what other cast members have been posting on their social media accounts. Hauser refers to tonight as an “extended Yellowstone finale,” which might be interpreted in different ways, not necessarily a heartfelt farewell like Reilly’s. However, given his rugged cowboy persona, it could simply mean he’s too stoic to express emotions openly. In contrast, Luke Grimes seems to be ending an era with “Goodbye Kayce,” suggesting a final goodbye. His post reads as more of an apocalyptic farewell: “You are a better man than I. To my Yellowstone family, thank you for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Similarly, Kelsey Asbille hints at only one episode left in her post.
It’s noteworthy that Wes Bentley doesn’t use social media. One might wonder how he presents himself publicly given his past actions. Regrettably, John Dutton has met his end – he’s no longer with us.
Last month, Hauser implied that Sheridan could potentially extend the show for another season, stating to The Hollywood Reporter, “Taylor has the ability to keep going if he chooses to.” However, he clarified, “I’m not saying it will continue; it’s just that Taylor is such a talented writer, he could do so if that’s something he feels strongly about.” We’ll have to wait for the upcoming season announcements to find out what sparks Taylor Sheridan’s creativity, apart from Bella Hadid.
