Is Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC worth $30? Here’s what you need to know

New trailers on the official Pokémon YouTube channel have revealed the release date and details for Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s paid DLC, called Mega Dimension. The DLC was announced before the main game even launched, which some fans criticized. While paid DLC isn’t always popular – and some were hoping for a price reduction with the upcoming Switch 2 – the Mega Dimension DLC looks promising. It will be available on December 10th, so players won’t have to wait long. However, with a price tag of $29.99, the question is whether it’s a worthwhile addition to the game. Here’s a breakdown of what we know so far.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s paid DLC, Mega Dimensions, gets a release date and new trailers

The new story content in Mega Dimension revolves around the appearance of mysterious portals all over Lumiose City. With the help of a new friend, Ansha, and her Hoopa, Team MZ can travel through these portals. Inside, you’ll find warped versions of Lumiose City and Pokémon from different regions – including Paldea (from Scarlet and Violet, like Garganacl and Annihilape), Alola (from Sun and Moon, like Golisopod), and Galar (from Sword and Shield, like Corviknight and Galarian Mr. Mime). Be careful if you haven’t finished the main story, as there may be spoilers! But if you’re looking for advice on building a strong team with Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile, we can help.

The Pokémon Company released two trailers: a quick, exciting one and a more detailed one with voice-over explaining the new characters and what’s coming in the game. The trailers revealed that Pokémon emerging from these portals will be incredibly powerful – some will be stronger than level 100, which is the highest level achievable in Pokémon games. This means even experienced trainers with fully leveled Pokémon could face a serious challenge.

We knew about Mega Raichu’s two new forms, but we’ve now seen what they look like in the game. It appears one form will be better at physical attacks, and the other will excel at special attacks – a design choice similar to what was done with Mewtwo and Charizard’s Mega Evolutions.

The trailers also unveiled two new Mega Evolutions. Baxcalibur, the powerful Dragon-type Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet, will gain a Mega Evolution that enhances its icy armor and large blade. Surprisingly, Chimecho will also receive a Mega Evolution, gaining a metal addition inspired by Chingling and holding even more wind chimes. These new forms suggest that more Mega Evolutions might be coming in this DLC.

It’s still unclear whether the new downloadable content (DLC) for Pokémon Legends Z-A is worth the $29.99 price tag. That’s a considerable cost for DLC, especially since it’s half the price of the original game. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to find out – the ‘Mega Dimensions’ DLC releases on December 10th.
