The latest episode of Gen V, Season 2, Episode 8, is now available, wrapping up the season. It nicely leads into Season 5 of The Boys, but what does that mean for a potential Season 3 of Gen V? Be warned: spoilers follow!
Throughout the second season of Gen V, the main villain was Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater), who seemed focused on helping Marie develop her powers. His reasons for doing so remained unclear until episode 7, when it was revealed that Cipher isn’t a real person.
The man we’ve been encountering is named Doug, but he’s actually being controlled like a puppet by Thomas Godolkin, the founder of God U. Godolkin manipulated Marie into healing his own body, and then put his plan into motion to get rid of students he didn’t think were powerful enough.
The season finale concluded several plotlines, but also hinted at future appearances by the Gen V characters. Now the big question is: what other TV show will they be on next?
Is Gen V Season 3 happening?
Whether or not there will be a Season 3 of Gen V is still uncertain, but the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, has stated that a plan exists. However, Amazon will only approve it if enough viewers watch Season 2.
In an interview with The Wrap, the showrunner shared that they have plans for a third season of Gen V, but its production depends on getting enough viewers for the current second season to make it worthwhile.
They’re really looking at how many people are watching right now, so don’t wait! Stream it on Prime Video immediately. If we get enough viewers, we’ll be able to make a third season.
In an interview with Radio Times, Kripke explained that the show’s future ultimately depends on how well it performs with viewers – a common answer in the television industry.
As a huge Gen V fan, I’m so excited to hear they have more stories planned! The creators have a really great idea for Season 3, and honestly, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it gets picked up. It really comes down to how many of us watch and support the show, and hopefully, the network agrees it’s worth continuing!
We haven’t received any news from Prime Video, and we can’t predict when Season 2 might be released based on previous patterns. Amazon MGM Studios did announce that Gen V would be renewed for a second season on October 19, 2023, even before all episodes of Season 1 had aired.
Now that the season finale is out, we’ll have to wait to find out if the show will be renewed for a third season.
The release date will depend on The Boys
We don’t have a confirmed release date for Gen V Season 3 yet. If it’s approved, the earliest we can expect it is 2027, but it could be delayed depending on the schedules for The Boys and its other shows.
The main series is ending with its fifth installment, and we currently expect it to be released around 2026.
Gen V was renewed for Season 2 in October 2023 and launched in September 2025. Since Season 4 of The Boys aired in June 2024, we can anticipate a similar release timeframe for Season 3 of Gen V if it’s approved.
The show is planning Season 2 for 2025, Season 5 in 2026, and Season 3 in 2027. However, because the new prequel series, Vought Rising, is also being developed, there might be a longer wait between seasons.
We’ll keep this space updated as and when new information rolls in.
How Gen V Season 2 Sets Up The Boys Season 5
We can confirm that the story from Gen V Season 2 will continue into Season 5 of The Boys. The season finale of Gen V saw Marie kill Thomas Godolkin, and now she and her friends are debating whether to go into hiding from Vought.
Just then, Starlight and A-Train show up – it seems A-Train has truly turned things around – and invite them to help fight against Vought, Homelander, and the Seven.
They agreed, which means The Boys have recruited some of the most powerful superheroes on Earth to their side, notably Marie, who is the only one with a chance of defeating Homelander.
Fans are now wondering if Marie will use her abilities to heal Butcher, potentially setting up the long-awaited fight between Butcher and Homelander.
One fan theorized on Reddit that Marie might heal Butcher from Kessler’s influence in Season 5 of The Boys. However, they also suggested this doesn’t guarantee his survival; he could be cured only to later die while battling Homelander and attempting to defeat him.
One theory suggests Marie will heal Butcher and remove the V from Homelander, allowing The Boys to finally take him down.
However, some people don’t think the God U students will be major players in the final season of The Boys. One source believes Butcher is fated to die in a fight with Homelander, predicting either a fatal showdown between the two or Hughie being the one to end Butcher’s life.
“Marie will never have an impactful role like that in Season 5.”
It’s still unclear exactly how significant their roles will be, but we do know that some of the actors from Gen V will be appearing in Season 5 of The Boys. A trailer shown at San Diego Comic-Con featured Jordan Li, confirming their involvement, though the extent of their participation remains to be seen.
When Variety asked what the ending of The Boys means for Gen V and other potential spin-offs, Kripke said he believes they absolutely should keep going.
The core of ‘The Boys’ revolves around the dynamic between Butcher and Homelander – their conflict is essential to the story. You can’t really have one without the other, and that central tension can only sustain the narrative for a limited time.
This story arc with Butcher and Homelander is concluding, but that doesn’t mean the world of the show is over. We hope the show has created a rich and interesting universe that allows for new stories and characters to be explored in the future.
“So hopefully, Gen V continues, hopefully, a couple other things we have in development continue.”
Kripke isn’t sharing many details about the plot of The Boys Season 3 yet, and understandably so. While it’s still too soon to predict exactly what will happen, the ending of the show will definitely shape the story going forward.
Who would be in the Gen V Season 3 cast?
Okay, so if everyone makes it through Season 5 of The Boys – and that’s a big if – I’m pretty sure we’ll see all the usual suspects from Godolkin University back again, like…
- Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau
- Keeya King as Annabeth Moreau
- Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer
- Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap
- London Thor as Jordan Li
- Derek Luh as Jordan Li
- Asa Germann as Sam
Ethan Slater and Hamish Linklater, who played Thomas Godolkin and Cipher, likely won’t return for future seasons of Gen V, as their characters died in the Season 2 finale—though flashbacks are always a possibility.
You can currently watch Seasons 1 and 2 of Gen V on Prime Video. While you’re at it, you might enjoy seeing all the cameos from The Boys, hearing Antony Starr’s take on a Homelander vs. Superman fight, and checking out our calendar of upcoming TV show releases for 2025.
