We recently spoke with the developers of Invincible VS, Quarter Up, and they shared some exciting news about the game’s original story mode.
Invincible VS, a new fighting game based on the popular Amazon Prime series, is planned for release in 2026. Players will battle as teams of three, using the show’s super-powered characters in quick-paced matches.
Dedicated comic book readers are excited about seeing lesser-known storylines adapted into the animated show. However, the creators at Quarter Up also plan to introduce completely original characters not found in the original comic.
Invincible VS will include a brand-new story mode, which was previously announced. However, they’ve now revealed that this mode will also feature a completely original character, adding to the excitement.
Invincible VS’s story mode will feature completely new character
In a recent interview, Executive Producer Michael Willette, Narrative Director Michael Rogers, and Art Director Dan Eder shared details about the game’s story mode. They emphasized that it’s a completely original narrative, unlike anything seen in the comics or animated series, and will feature over 25 minutes of unique, custom-made animation.
Helen Leigh, co-executive producer and writer for *Invincible*, is writing the project alongside co-creator Robert Kirkman and Michael Rogers. They aim for it to feel like an interactive episode of the show.
We also learned something else exciting: in addition to familiar characters returning in the game, the story mode will introduce a completely original character never seen before in the series.
We’re planning to include characters fans already love, and we’re also introducing someone completely new to the Invincible story. I won’t reveal anything about this new character just yet, but they’ll be a great addition alongside the returning favorites—and honestly, I’m adding some because I want to!

“Pretty much every character” from Invincible has been considered
We didn’t get a ton of details about specific characters during our chat, but they did say they’re thinking about including pretty much *everyone* from the comics and the show! Honestly, with so many options, it’s tough for them to decide who to launch with. They’re really focusing on making sure the initial roster has a good mix of different ways to play, though – so we’ll get some variety in how we approach matches.
According to Eder, they’ve considered adding many different characters over time. A key focus throughout the process has been ensuring the additions feel fresh and don’t repeat what’s already there.
We’re aiming for a diverse cast, not just Viltrumites or typical superheroes. We want players to be able to choose characters that really suit their individual play style and what they enjoy as an Invincible fan, offering a lot of variety.

Our main focus is always ensuring new ideas fit the game’s overall design. We often face difficult challenges – like when everyone wants a particular character, but implementing them isn’t easy. Even when things get tough, we discuss the pros and cons and ultimately decide if the effort is worthwhile. If it is, we move forward and make it happen.
I was really excited to hear about Cecil Stedman joining the Invincible VS roster! He’s bringing some seriously cool tech and his ReAnimen to the game, and I think he’s going to shake things up a lot with all the different combinations he opens up.
Invincible VS is slated for release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
