The fourth season of Invincible is now available on Prime Video. Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) is back to protecting Earth, even though he’s still recovering from his tough battle with Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Here’s a recap of what happens in the first three episodes – be warned, spoilers are ahead!
So, this animated show is based on the original comic book by Robert Kirkman – he’s actually one of the guys running the whole thing! But honestly, Season 4 has a lot to live up to. The previous seasons were amazing, so the pressure’s on!
The third season concluded with Mark facing off against multiple alternate versions of himself, brought together by Angstrom Levy to retaliate for an injury Invincible caused. Immediately after that conflict, Mark had to defend himself against Conquest, a powerful Viltrumite, who came to check if Mark had taken control of Earth.
A fight broke out, quickly becoming a global event, and Mark and Eve (Gillian Jacobs) were ultimately able to stop it. However, the new episodes show Mark questioning whether he even wants to be a superhero anymore… Here’s a summary of the first three episodes of Invincible Season 4.
What happens in Invincible Season 4 Episode 1?
Season 4 of Invincible starts with Mark tirelessly fighting villains all over the globe, but he feels like he’s constantly falling behind. All the fighting is taking a toll, leaving him little time for his personal life. Though his relationship with Eve is strong, he begins to drift apart from his brother, Oliver (Christian Convery).

Oliver expresses his frustration to his brother, saying, “There’s always one more fight,” highlighting a core problem: if battles never end, why bother trying to resolve them? To make matters worse, public opinion of Invincible is currently very negative. And as if that weren’t enough, a massive villain named Dinosaurus – a giant, red Tyrannosaurus Rex – begins destroying a city.
It’s so frustrating watching Dinosaurus! He’s this incredibly powerful guy, almost like the Hulk, but he messes things up and then doesn’t even remember it. He was really getting to Mark, saying all his heroic work was pointless – that every life saved would eventually be lost anyway. Mark nearly killed him, trying to prevent more damage, which was intense! Luckily, the new Guardians of the Globe showed up just in time and stopped him.
On top of everything else, Eve’s abilities are acting up for an unknown reason. As fans learned from Spider-Man 2, a hero’s power problems often stem from personal issues. However, that’s not much comfort when parasitic creatures start emerging from underground and begin controlling the city’s population…

Meanwhile, Universa (Danai Gurira) begins attacking a power plant, draining all of its energy. Mark is already overwhelmed trying to handle everything, and this adds to the pressure. Luckily, the GDA manages to contain them all within a shielded dome, allowing the Guardians to focus on rescuing civilians from the Sequids.
Invincible faces increasingly difficult personal struggles that eventually lead him to a shocking decision: killing the main Sequid host to end the invasion. While drastic, the audience understands his reasoning – he feels his efforts aren’t making a real, lasting difference.
To really emphasize this: the first episode of Invincible Season 4 concludes with Conquest completely recovered… and that’s not good.
Invincible Season 4 Episode 2 recap – Viltrumite Scourge Virus backstory
The second episode of Invincible Season 4 dedicates a significant portion to Nolan’s history on Viltrum, showing what his life was like before he traveled the galaxy. It also explains the surprisingly low number of Viltrumites remaining – someone unleashed a bioweapon on their planet.

The day millions of Viltrumites died from the Scourge Virus, young Nolan was teaching children about Viltrum’s history, specifically the story of Emperor Argall and his killer, known as “the betrayer.” Following Argall’s death, the Viltrumites harshly eliminated the weak among them, ensuring only the strongest survived.
After that, the Scourge Virus swept across the planet once more, throwing Viltrum into turmoil. The scale of the devastation was immense, with massive burial sites encircling the entire planet. Nolan was infected, but he was able to fight it off. The virus weakens those it infects, which accounts for why Conquest is missing an arm.
The story jumps back to the present, where Nolan is telling Allen the Alien everything that happened. Together, they begin a quest—dubbed “The Great Omni-Man Redemption Tour”—to locate weapons powerful enough to defeat the Viltrumites. These include Space Ray, who wields a beam that can pierce Viltrumite armor, some unsettling insects, and the ferocious Rognarrs.

The episode reveals that Thaedus (voiced by Peter Cullen) was the original creator of the Scourge Virus. He’s now developing a more powerful version for the Coalition of Planets. Despite feeling remorse for initially unleashing the virus, Thaedus believes it’s ultimately for the greater good of the galaxy.
After arguing about the nature of conquerors, Nolan leaves to get one last weapon… Mark.
As expected, the scene after the credits hints at future events. Conquest returns to Viltrum and humbly offers his life to Thragg as punishment for failing to defeat Mark, even wanting to die. However, Thragg refuses to grant his request, stating Conquest still has tasks to complete. This is frustrating news for Conquest.
Invincible Season 4 Episode 3 recap – Flaxan invasion & Oliver vs. Mr. Liu
Invincible Season 4 Episode 3 shifts the focus back to Earth, developing some of the show’s other villains. In a bar, gangster Machine Head (Jeffrey Donovan) meets Titan (Mahershala Ali) and suggests they should be pleased with having taken over Mr. Liu’s (Tzi Ma) territory. Machine Head then reveals that Liu is still alive and intends to seek revenge on Titan and his family.

Machine Head proposes a deal to Titan: join the Order by eliminating Mr. Liu. It’s important to remember Mr. Liu can transform into a powerful, giant green dragon, and isn’t as helpless as he seems.
Cecil and Donald discuss whether Mark was justified in killing the Sequid host, while Mark himself continues to grapple with taking lives, wishing he’d eliminated Angstrom Levy sooner. Cecil advises Mark to let him handle life-or-death choices and focus on being a hero.
Okay, so things went crazy! We jumped back to Titan’s place, and this villain, Magnattack, tried to kill him and his family with, like, magnetic shrapnel. Titan took him down, no problem. He thought Mr. Liu was behind it, so he hired Invincible Inc. to investigate. But my dad, Oliver, really wanted to help Mark and Eve, so he ended up working with Titan. Little did he know, he was walking into a fight with a massive dragon! It was wild.
Rex can’t find anything physically wrong with Eve, but her powers are acting up, causing her a lot of stress. To make things worse, just when everything couldn’t get more complicated, the Flaxans launch a fresh attack on the city, bringing more powerful weapons to fight Invincible and the Guardians.

Robot and Monster Girl travel through a portal to the Flaxan base, hoping to shut down a gate and rescue the people the aliens have captured. However, things go wrong when the Flaxan commander closes the gate, trapping them both inside. That’s not good!
Oliver is struggling badly in his fight with Mr. Liu, clearly overwhelmed. Luckily, Invincible arrives just in time, after the Flaxans have been driven back, and together they manage to defeat Mr. Liu using Titan. It seems like another success for Invincible Inc., but they’ve actually fallen into Machine Head’s trap. Both Titan and Mr. Liu end up rejoining the Order, and it’s obvious Machine Head planned everything to bring them back into the fold.
The scene after the credits confirms what many viewers predicted: Eve is pregnant. This will undoubtedly create new challenges for the Invincible family.
