The TV series Interview with the Vampire will be retitled The Vampire Lestat for its third season. This change reflects a shift in focus from the character Louis to Lestat, mirroring the plot of Anne Rice’s novel featuring the vampire portrayed by Sam Reid. With Louis playing a smaller role in that story, fans have been curious about how much Jacob Anderson’s character will be featured in the upcoming season. Now, the show’s creator has shared some details.
As a huge fan of that Interview with the Vampire show on AMC and Netflix, I’ve been completely hooked on Louis’ story. We really see him grapple with becoming a vampire, and Lestat is a big part of that initial journey. But Season 2 threw me for a loop! Sam Reid, who plays Lestat, is in every episode, but for a lot of it, he’s actually a creation of Louis’ mind. It’s not until the very end that the real Lestat physically appears. That got me thinking – now that Lestat’s story is taking center stage, how will Louis fit into everything? Showrunner Rolin Jones actually talked about this with EW, and here’s what he said:
We had a truly talented actor in the role, but the original novel, The Vampire Lestat, didn’t offer much in the way of background for his character. So, we drew on other writings by Anne Rice about Louis – details that fit with the story we were already telling and our understanding of who he is and his history with the central character. Ultimately, anything Louis reveals is significant to Lestat.

Netflix just added the second season of a critically acclaimed show – it has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! It’s definitely worth watching.
The new season of The Vampire Lestat will draw inspiration from Anne Rice’s larger Vampire Chronicles series, not just the novel the season is based on. This means we’ll see more of the character Louis this season than if the show had only used the source material for its namesake.
There’s a pattern we’ve seen before. Like with Sam Reid in Season 2 – he appeared even when Lestat wasn’t physically with Louis, almost like a vision, before finally showing up at the end. I’m wondering if Anderson’s character will be introduced in a similar way in The Vampire Lestat, since these two vampires are clearly always on each other’s minds.
The trailer for The Vampire Lestat suggests Louis will be a major character this season, though his specific storyline remains a mystery. The show’s creator confirmed this, stating:
We’ve developed a compelling storyline for this character, and there’s a lot to it. I can’t share specifics right now because even a small detail would spoil the surprises. What I can say is that this story is progressing incredibly well – it’s clear, beautiful, and deeply emotional. It’s currently our most successful and rapidly developing plotline this year.
I’m both thrilled and anxious about the new season. Knowing the history of Interview with the Vampire, I expect a lot of heartache and conflict for Louis and Lestat. But this season feels different – we’re heading into unknown territory, and it’s hard to predict what will happen, especially since Anderson’s storyline is taking an unexpected turn.
Get ready! A new TV series based on The Vampire Lestat is scheduled for 2026. It will feature both Lestat and Louis, and promises to be a dramatic, thrilling, and violent story.
