According to FlixPatrol, the new release Talamasca: The Secret Order has quickly become one of the most popular titles on AMC+, currently ranking at number four. While it hasn’t yet reached the top spot held by The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, it’s showing strong performance and doesn’t appear to be losing viewers.
The new series, Talamasca: The Secret Order, launched on AMC and AMC+ on October 26th with its first two episodes. Within a day, it quickly climbed to fourth place in the rankings. While The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon remained the most popular show, a movie took second place, and The Red King was third.
Inspired by the secret society first appearing in Anne Rice’s 1988 novel, The Queen of the Damned, Talamasca: The Secret Order is part of the Immortal Universe series, which also includes Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches. The show centers on Guy Anatole, played by Nicholas Denton, who is recruited into the Talamasca right before finishing law school. The cast also features Céline Buckens as Doris, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Olive, William Fichtner as the vampire who heads the London branch, and Elizabeth McGovern as Helen, leader of the New York branch.
Similar to the source novels by Anne Rice, the Talamasca is an organization committed to maintaining the equilibrium between the human world and the supernatural. Having appeared in thirteen of Rice’s books, the Talamasca is already well-connected to characters and ideas from other shows in AMC’s Immortal Universe. The new series has already featured one crossover: the first episode of Talamasca: The Secret Order includes Eric Bogosian returning as Daniel Molloy, the journalist who became a vampire in Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire.
What Do Audiences and Critics Think of Talamasca: The Secret Order?
Despite a lot of pre-release buzz, the new series Talamasca: The Secret Order received mixed reviews when it premiered on October 26th. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 59% rating based on 17 critic reviews – not a great score, but not necessarily a sign the show will fail. With four episodes remaining in the first season, Talamasca: The Secret Order still has a chance to improve and win over audiences.
The series will present a unique take on the Talamasca. As Denton explains, their version feels more like a professional organization – a fully functioning business with all the practical details that implies. He questioned whether this approach aligned with the atmospheres of the Mayfair or Interview stories, recognizing the importance of honoring Anne Rice’s original work while also broadening the universe to welcome new audiences and explore its many possibilities.
You can now watch Talamasca: The Secret Order on AMC+. New episodes arrive every Sunday on AMC.
