Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Is The Next, Very Different Naughty Dog Game

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the announcement of Naughty Dog’s new game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, has me thoroughly intrigued. Having followed their work since the early days of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for this fresh, science-fiction take on their storytelling prowess.

At The Game Awards, Naughty Dog unveiled its upcoming major game series, which deviates significantly from their previous works. This forthcoming game is titled “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” and seems to be situated in a distant yet relatable sci-fi setting.

In the cinematic preview, Tatiana Gabrielle as character Jordan gets a call, accepts a task, and swiftly departs in her spacecraft Porsche. The scene shifts to her battling a colossal robotic threat. Although the game didn’t display any combat or gameplay scenes, Geoff Keighley pointed out that everything was created using the game engine.

Since 2020’s release of The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog has been busy with various endeavors beyond this project. In 2023, HBO premiered a live-action adaptation of the first game in the series, titled The Last of Us. A second season is set to air in 2025, adapting parts but not all of the story from the video game sequel, with plans for additional seasons to continue the narrative further.

Initially, Naughty Dog planned to develop a multiplayer version of The Last of Us, centered around the Factions mode. Known as The Last of Us Online, this game aimed to transfer the single-player’s tense atmosphere and intense combat into a competitive multiplayer environment, incorporating live-service aspects. However, development on this project was halted about two years ago, with Naughty Dog confirming that they would be concentrating solely on single-player games going forward.
