Inside the Carter Family: A Journey Through Fame, Tragedy, and Resilience

Actress Soleil Moon Frye is gearing up to direct “The Carters,” an upcoming two-part documentary that delves into the remarkable peaks and heartbreaking valleys experienced by the Carter family. This includes the successful musical journeys of Nick Carter, a Backstreet Boys band member, and Aaron Carter, a popular pop star, who unfortunately passed away in 2022.

The upcoming documentary titled “The Carters” is being produced by See It Now Studios and Candle True Stories. This film will be narrated by Angel Carter Conrad, Aaron’s twin sister, offering a unique perspective. The narrative is a moving and enlightening account, featuring fresh interviews with close acquaintances such as Melissa Joan Hart and Scout Willis, along with previously unseen home movies. You can stream this compelling story later in the year on Paramount+.

Conrad expressed that this documentary is deeply personal and meaningful to his family. By revealing the authentic account of our struggles, triumphs, and recovery – marked by pain, determination, and healing – he aims to pay tribute to our experiences and turn our past hardships into a beacon of hope and motivation for those encountering similar difficulties.

According to the official summary, the series “The Carters” portrays two brothers who appear to lead successful lives, yet beneath their extraordinary talents, they grapple with mental health issues, substance abuse, and devastating neglect within their family.

As a devoted admirer, I delve into the intricate web of familial ties that ultimately claimed the lives of three out of the five initial Carter siblings, along with their dad. The captivating yet heartrending tale of these charming siblings unfolds from their early years, as home movies showcase Nick and Aaron’s undeniable and prodigious talent. However, fame and wealth brought forth rivalries, jealousies, and manipulation at the hands of those they trusted most – their very own parents.

In the years 2012, 2017, 2022, and 2023, Nick and Angel’s siblings – Leslie, their father, Aaron, and Bobbie Jean – passed away under unfortunate circumstances: an apparent overdose, heart attack, accidental drowning, and another accidental overdose, respectively. Furthermore, Nick has been confronted with multiple accusations of sexual misconduct, which he has consistently denied.

Frye, responsible for directing ‘Kid 90’ released in 2021, expressed this in a statement: ‘I feel ethically obligated to establish an environment where others can openly express their honest experiences.’ Angel’s bravery in revealing her family’s struggle with mental health problems, substance abuse, heartache, unimaginable loss, and ultimately love, is a powerful demonstration of her character. Her goal is learning how to convert pain and hardship into a beacon of hope that can mend even the most fractured pieces. We believe this movie will aid those battling similar challenges by showing them that from the suffering Angel’s family has experienced, positive change can emerge for her, her brother Nick, and the world at large.

President of See It Now Studios, Susan Zirinsky, commented, “Stepping into the private world of the family’s hidden struggles, where one doesn’t feel the pain of others, is what Frye believed was a task for Angel to discuss topics like fame, pressures, addiction, misconceptions, and ultimately, the crucial matter of mental health issues.

The TV series “The Carters” is overseen by James Goldston, Steven Baker, Cynthia Childs, and Soleil Moon Frye as executive producers. Susan Zirinsky and Terence Wrong serve as executive producers for See It Now Studios, while Aysu Saliba and Cara Tortora take on supervising producer roles.
