Harper Stern is coming back to manipulate the markets one last time.
When Industry first launched on HBO, it was a little-known financial drama debuting alongside popular shows like Euphoria and Succession. It quickly gained a dedicated following through positive word-of-mouth, with viewership increasing each year and critics consistently praising its quality. Despite leaving viewers with unresolved storylines at the end of each season, HBO has shown strong faith in creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay by renewing the show for a fifth and final season.
Myha’la, known for her role as Harper Stern in the series Industry, recently told ScreenRant that filming for season 5 is scheduled to begin in August 2026. While she hasn’t seen any scripts yet, she expressed her enthusiasm about returning to work on the show.
The fourth season of Industry concluded with Down and Kay essentially starting over. Throughout the season, the established character Eric Tao (Ken Leung) departed, and Yasmin (Marisa Abela) destroyed her marriage to Henry Muck (Kit Harrington), ultimately acting on her darkest desires and betraying her friend Harper.
Harper appears to be going through a transformation, both in how she views the world and how she approaches her career. Previously known for being a fiercely independent businesswoman who would betray others to get ahead, she surprisingly refused to accept Yasmin’s actions. Instead, she decided to remain with her new company, working alongside her complicated romantic interest, Kwabena (Toheeb Jimoh), and a former colleague, Sweetpea Golightly (Miriam Petche).
As I watched the last few episodes of Industry season 4, I couldn’t help but feel like they were laying the groundwork for a fifth and final season. It’s become clear that Industry likes to really dive deep into one specific corner of the financial world each season as part of its bigger story. We’ve seen it tackle private wealth and the link between healthcare and finance in season 2, then ethical investing in season 3, and most recently, the collision between the finance and tech industries in season 4.
The fourth season ended with the shocking reveal that Russia had been secretly manipulating events. Meanwhile, Yasmin became involved in a questionable deal with politician Sebastian Stefanowicz, where she helped arrange sex workers for a fundraising event. Many viewers saw this storyline as a reflection of the case involving Ghislaine Maxwell.
Season 5 of Industry might delve more into politics, but the show’s creators, Down and Kay, are known for surprising viewers, so anything could happen. They’ve previously discussed how they felt cornered after the season three finale. Not sure if HBO would renew the show, they decided to end the season on their own terms.
The show’s fourth season was a hit with both critics (earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and online viewers, generating a lot of discussion. Now, the most interesting part of season 5 might be seeing how the characters of Down and Kay will continue the story.
