Many fans of the Harry Potter series aren’t excited about the new TV show in development, but there’s another option that could be fantastic. HBO’s plan to create a TV series closely following the books caused disagreement for several reasons. While the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling is a concern for some, most fans feel a new adaptation isn’t necessary, as the Harry Potter movies already covered the story.
Next year celebrates the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and the film remains incredibly popular. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will forever be known as the iconic Golden Trio, just like Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, and the rest of the cast. While the Harry Potter movies weren’t perfect, the idea of replacing them with a new TV series feels a bit strange.
Some fans are distancing themselves from the new Harry Potter remake, saying it’s ‘not their Harry Potter.’ They’re worried the original movies they love will be overshadowed. However, recent news suggests the original films will still be celebrated and remembered.
Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone Is Returning As A Fully Immersive Experience
Warner Bros. is creating a new, immersive version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone set to release in 2026. They’re working with Cosm, a company that specializes in turning entertainment like movies and concerts into fully immersive experiences, to make it happen.
Cosm Shared Reality is a unique entertainment venue featuring massive, high-definition LED domes that completely immerse the audience. Instead of using VR headsets, it makes you feel like you’re actually in the story. For the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone experience, you’ll be placed right in the middle of Harry’s first year at Hogwarts.
Cosm currently has locations in Los Angeles and Dallas, and is planning to open new ones in Detroit, Atlanta, and Cleveland soon. They hope to announce even more locations by 2026, when their Sorcerer’s Stone Shared Reality experience becomes available.
HBO’s Harry Potter Remake Clearly Isn’t Replacing The Original Movies
It’s great news that the Harry Potter movies are getting renewed attention in 2026. This signals that Warner Bros. doesn’t intend to sideline these popular films as they prepare to launch a new TV series on HBO. The same approach applies to the Harry Potter books themselves. While the new TV show aims to be a close adaptation of the source material, Warner Bros. also created a complete, unabridged audiobook version of the series with Audible.
Ultimately, the aim is to offer fans more ways to experience the world of Harry Potter. While viewers are free to decide if they want to watch the new HBO series, they can be confident that the original, beloved Harry Potter films will always be available.
