Shirley Curry (often called the Skyrim Grandma) has been a popular figure in the gaming community for almost a decade. Sadly, it looks like she’s going to stop playing Skyrim-and this time, it’s not because of the game itself, but due to issues with her audience. Specifically, the problem involves a particular age group within that audience.
Too many kids, too little sense
This streamer, who is nearly 90 years old, has attempted to stop gaming before, explaining she was simply feeling worn out and wasn’t having fun creating content for her channel. She took a month-long break, which she called “retirement,” before coming back to stream Skyrim. Afterwards, like a true Scrolls enthusiast, she began playing Oblivion – a move that greatly pleased her followers.
Sadly, Shirley Curry has stopped streaming again. She recently shared a video a few hours ago that suggests she may not be returning to streaming anytime soon.
It seems she’s resigning because of her viewers. They aren’t quite the type of audience she’s looking for. As her viewership increases, so do comments that don’t offer much substance. These comments aren’t mean-spirited, just not particularly useful. Skyrim Grandma is hoping her fans will provide more thoughtful and helpful feedback in the future.
I do have some long-time viewers, but the majority are very young children, and I’m not receiving any constructive feedback on my videos. I mostly just get messages like ‘Hi grandma, I love you grandma‘. That’s not the kind of engagement I was hoping for when I created and uploaded these videos. […] Therefore, I’ve decided to stop making videos about Skyrim. I’m feeling burnt out and not enjoying the process anymore, likely due to the overwhelming number of young children watching – Curry explained.
Thankfully, Shirley Curry isn’t planning on leaving her fans behind completely. A mod has been made for Skyrim as a special tribute, letting players encounter the famous Grandma within the game. She also intends to continue creating content, regularly posting vlogs on her channel. In addition, she maintains a blog where she wants to connect with her audience, though it’s worth noting that the content may not be suitable for children – likely due to the serious religious themes.
