Released in 2006, *The Holiday* has gained a reputation as a modern Christmas classic, remaining popular even twenty years later. The charming romantic comedy follows Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, who swap homes during the holidays after breakups, and both find romance – with Jude Law and Jack Black – and discover more about themselves. Recently, fans have been wondering if a sequel will ever be made.
Jude Law was recently asked if he’d be interested in making another *The Holiday* movie. Here’s what he had to say.
Nancy Meyers would have to be involved. She was the magic that brought all that together.
This August, news broke that a miniseries adaptation of *The Holiday* is coming to Apple TV+. However, it won’t be a continuation of the original story – it’s a complete remake. Interestingly, Nancy Meyers, the director of the original film, wasn’t involved in the project and found out about it the same way everyone else did – through social media. She shared her surprise on her Instagram story, stating she had no prior knowledge of the remake.
The new take on *The Holiday* will be written and executive produced by Krissie Ducker, who also created *Sweetpea*, alongside Rob Delaney. It doesn’t appear Jude Law will be involved, and he’s shared what little he knows about the project.
I’ve heard something about it, but honestly, I don’t know much at all. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m not involved. I really have no idea what’s going on.
Nancy Meyers wrote, produced, and directed *The Holiday*, and her signature style is also evident in beloved films like *Father of the Bride*, the 1998 version of *The Parent Trap*, and *Something’s Gotta Give*. Fans of the original movie might be concerned that neither Meyers nor star Jude Law are involved in the new project. Here’s how Law said he first learned about it, in an interview with *Today*:
I think Nancy wrote to me and said, ‘Have you heard about this?’ Literally.
I was so excited when I heard about the possibility of a *Holiday* sequel! You know, back in 2022, Nancy Meyers actually said she didn’t think she’d do one because she was worried about letting down fans of the original – she really cares about making something special. But then, just recently in December, it seemed like she and David E. Kelley were hinting at something happening after all! It’s great to see they might be reconsidering, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
It’s no surprise everyone loves *The Holiday* enough to talk about a potential revisit, but it seems the original cast would prefer the original director involved. Regardless, the 2006 film is still a Christmas favorite, and many people still enjoy watching it – especially for a glimpse of that memorable English cottage.
