Be warned: this article contains spoilers from the first episode of Boston Blue, which is now available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription.
Last week, CBS launched Boston Blue, a new series expanding the world of Blue Bloods, as part of its 2025 lineup. The premiere brought Donnie Wahlberg back as Danny Reagan, who traveled to Boston after his son, Sean, was hurt. There, he teamed up with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) from the Boston PD. In addition to Bridget Moynahan reprising her role as Erin Reagan, Marisa Ramirez returned as Maria Baez, and she’s recently hinted at some difficult times ahead for her character and Danny.
Fans were thrilled to see Danny and Baez together again in the recent Boston Blue episode, especially after their relationship was confirmed in the Blue Bloods finale. Many, like me, are hoping to see their romance develop further. However, according to actress Marisa Ramirez, appearing as a guest star doesn’t necessarily mean smooth sailing for the detectives – things could get complicated.
You should always worry about long distance. You never know what’s gonna happen. Always worry.
Although New York and Boston aren’t that far apart, Danny and Baez are both busy with their own lives, which makes it tough to find time for each other. As Ramirez noted, things could have been much worse – the show could have prevented them from becoming a couple in the first place. So, even a long distance relationship is better than no relationship at all.
The actress appreciated how the writers found a way to continue the story of Baez and Danny in Boston Blue, calling it a “sweet, generous, and wonderful gift” for Blue Bloods fans who were eager to see what happened with the couple after the show ended. So, when Danny received the call about Sean while he and Baez were having a private moment, it was a delightful surprise.

You can stream Boston Blue and Blue Bloods on Paramount+, which costs as little as $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. They offer a basic plan for $7.99/month and an ad-free Premium plan for $12.99/month. For the best value, consider an annual subscription to save money on your favorite shows and movies. I was reading up on what might happen with Marisa Ramirez’s character, Detective Baez, on Boston Blue, and she said that she and her daughter Elena could definitely move to Boston if the show continues. She doesn’t know for sure if that will happen, but she’s keeping her options open and isn’t ruling out coming back for more episodes, which is great to hear as a fan!
I’m hoping she appears in more than just a single scene throughout the season. Honestly, we’ll just have to watch and see what happens, but I’m still concerned about whether their long-distance relationship will succeed.
Ramirez admitted it’s more entertaining to watch relationship drama than a happy couple. This makes it difficult to guess where Danny and Baez’s relationship will go, both on and off screen. Given they just got together in the final episode of Blue Bloods, it would be disappointing to see that connection damaged in the new spinoff. While I’m still a little concerned, I’m also eager to see what happens next. Catch new episodes of Boston Blue Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
