Warning: This contains spoilers for those who haven’t seen the big surprise in Peacemaker Episode 6, revealed through a HBO Max subscription. You’ve been warned!
The sixth episode of Peacemaker Season 2 took a surprising turn by revealing that the seemingly perfect alternate dimension the main character visits is actually Earth X, a world controlled by Nazis. While some fans predicted this twist, others were genuinely shocked. (It seems the folks at Fortnite were also surprised – they quickly removed the character’s dance emote from Season 2 after the reveal.)
This episode included a significant guest appearance by Superman actor Nicholas Hoult, which James Gunn explains is laying the groundwork for the next installment. However, Lex isn’t the primary danger that John Cena’s character likely needs to be concerned with. His own lack of foresight seems to be a more pressing problem, in my opinion, and I’m talking about potentially the strongest entity on Earth X: Overman. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, fans are increasingly focused on the possibility of his arrival.
Fans Really Think Overman Is Coming To Peacemaker’s Earth X
For those who don’t know, Overman is essentially the Nazi counterpart to Superman from Earth-10. He originated because Kal-El’s rocket landed on the opposite side of the planet instead of in Kansas. The Arrowverseexplored this type of character in Supergirl, where Melissa Benoist portrayed an evil version of her character. The storyline “Crisis on Earth-X” specifically introduced evil versions of heroes into those shows.
As a big DC fan, I’m getting the strong sense that we’ll finally see James Gunn’s vision of Overman – the DCU’s version, of course – pop up in the last three episodes of Peacemaker Season 2. Honestly, it feels like a pretty direct connection, and it’s getting a lot of us excited. It’s as clear a hint as we could ask for, really.
Here’s a smattering of other Overman-related posts from recent weeks (and then some):
- An OVERMAN appearance in Peacemaker would be insane – @blurayangel
- I’m certain Overman is appearing in Peacemaker now dude – @Themistmaker1
- Look, with the hype it’s creating with the last two episodes of Peacemaker, I demand at minimum Overman, Overgirl, the Over Justice Gang, and everything over that might exist. – @Rabito_88
- gonna see someone face off against Peacemaker and Peacemaker is gonna be on the ground badly beaten and injured and and then the camera will move to the shadows showing Overman slowly walking towards the Peacemaker revealing himself and he says “its over, man!” then credits roll – @Sp1neYeager
- I’m sayin’ it like it is: if David Corenswet shows up as Overman in Peacemaker right now, I’ll get the hiccups. That James Gunn is coming out with Earth X right now is just brilliant on so many levels. – @DonSchnulze
Most people expect Overman to appear in the story before long, but a bigger question is who will play the superpowered villain, especially considering what James Gunn has said recently.
Can Overman Appear In Peacemaker Without Involving David Corenswet Or Superman?
Here’s the update: James Gunn recently spoke with Variety about Episode 6, and when questioned about whether fans would see David Corenswet portraying Superman as either the Earth X or Earth 1 version in the show, Gunn strongly suggested that Corenswet will not be appearing in Peacemaker. In his words:
Actually, David was quite disappointed that Nick was chosen for the show and he wasn’t. Things simply didn’t align for him to participate.
If Gunn had been focusing on the characters themselves, and not the actors playing them, I’d have assumed he was simply talking about Superman’s absence. But it’s pretty clear to me now that he’s saying David Corenswet was actually disappointed he didn’t get to appear in Peacemaker. However, does this completely rule out the possibility of Overman making an appearance down the line? Not necessarily, though it would definitely require some serious explanation.
Since Overman doesn’t hide his face and is clearly designed to resemble our world’s most famous hero, it would likely harm the character if anyone other than Corenswet played him. However, if James Gunn secretly managed to get Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill to join the DCU, that would be a surprising way to address Cavill’s short run as the Kryptonian. It would likely cause some controversy, but also generate a lot of excitement.

It would also be funny to me if David Corenswet was listed as someone else in the credits. I’d be happy with either of these fan theories being correct, particularly the first one. Similarly, I’d find it amusing.
- How hilarious would it be if Overman makes a cameo in #Peacemaker finale and it’s played by none other than Antony Starr – @papyfaye
- Everyone is speculating Nazi Superman aka Overman appearing in Peacemaker…but we already have a BLUE EYED BLONDE like the nazis love, so it won’t be Overman, it will be Overgirl aka Nazi Supergirl! – @justphishnmusk
Is it true that James Gunn included a villainous Nazi version of Superman in the second season of Peacemaker, or are fans jumping to conclusions? Tune in to HBO Max on Thursdays to find out when new episodes are released.
