As a die-hard Western fan who grew up watching John Wayne movies and binging through every episode of Deadwood, I can confidently say that American Primeval is shaping up to be my new obsession. Having been left in a state of withdrawal after the disappointing final season of Yellowstone, I’ve been eagerly awaiting a new Western series to satiate my thirst for cowboy violence and intricate storytelling. With its darker take on the Old West, expansive cast, and talented showrunner Eric Newman (known for Griselda, Narcos, and The Watcher), American Primeval seems like a perfect follow-up to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. I can hardly wait until January 9th to dive into this wild, lawless frontier!

Oh, and let me tell you, if you thought the Dutton family was tough, just wait until you meet the characters in American Primeval – they’ll make the Duttons look like a bunch of wimps! (Just kidding, I still love the Duttons!)

Although Yellowstone may have concluded, a fresh Western series from Netflix is set to debut in the upcoming year, promising ample doses of frontier-style action to quench your thirst for cowboy-related turmoil.

The broadcaster has demonstrated their commitment to top-tier Western television series, with productions like Godless from 2017 and Territory slated for 2024, clearly showing they have a stake in the game.

Ever since 2018, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has been ruling the roost when it comes to gripping small-screen Western tales. From its contemporary drama to the numerous prequels and offshoots, it’s been my go-to for cowboy adventures on the TV frontier.

Ever since the Yellowstone finale wrapped up on December 15, I’ve found myself yearning for something new to dive into, especially after the rather divisive last season. Luckily, Netflix seems to have read my mind with their upcoming series, American Primeval, which promises an exciting gaming experience.

American Primeval hits Netflix on January 9

Starting on Thursday, January 9th, you’ll find American Primeval, a gripping six-part limited series, delving into the sinister aspects of the Wild West, on your streaming service.

In the United States of 1857, things seem reversed: kindness and calmness appear scarce, while anger and dread seem to be winning. Peacefulness is becoming increasingly rare, and only a small number of people exhibit grace or empathy.

As someone who has spent years exploring the untamed wilderness of North America, I can attest that there is no sanctuary to be found within these lands – only survival. The story depicted in “American Primeval” resonates deeply with my own experiences, as it portrays a fictionalized account of the brutal clash between culture, religion, and community.

The characters in this tale are forced to confront the harsh realities of life on the unforgiving frontier, where every decision they make could mean the difference between life and death. The struggle for control over this world is a relentless one, and it demands everything from those who dare to enter its lawless expanse.

The ensemble cast provides a powerful and poignant portrayal of the sacrifices that must be made in order to survive on the frontier. It is a story that speaks to the human spirit’s resilience and determination, even in the face of overwhelming adversity. I highly recommend “American Primeval” for anyone who seeks to understand the true grit and courage that defines the pioneer spirit.

A collection of rival clans and settlements vying for dominance, with the harsh environment presenting peril to all who venture into it – this seems an ideal continuation to Sheridan’s narrative about land disputes.

If you’re still undecided, perhaps the stellar lineup of actors will catch your attention. Featuring Taylor Kitsch, Jai Courtney, Dane DeHaan, Betty Gilpin, and Shea Whigham, this wide-ranging tale delves into the intricate dynamics of how the West often takes more than it contributes.

Executive Producer Eric Newman is in charge of the series, who has a history of working on shows like Griselda, Narcos, and The Watcher.
