Comedians Colin Jost and Pete Davidson purchased an old ferry boat in 2022 and playfully dubbed it “Titanic 2.” The project to restore the vessel has become quite an adventure, facing challenges with local residents and even hosting a fashion show. Davidson recently updated Seth Meyers on their progress, and Meyers was amazed by the sheer size of the ferry.
Since 2022, the comedians have been renovating a boat they bought for $280,000, making steady progress. They’ve also started hosting events and working on other creative projects, with more planned for the future. The story behind their purchase resurfaced on *Late Night with Seth Meyers* when Meyers revealed he was riding the Staten Island Ferry for the first time while chaperoning his child’s school trip. As he boarded, he couldn’t help but think of Jost and Davidson and their boat.
I was really surprised by how huge the ferry was! It was way bigger than I expected – I thought you all had gotten something much smaller.
It’s easy to feel sympathy for the comedian investors who are constantly being made fun of because of their involvement with the Titanic 2 project. It’s become a common joke in Hollywood, with even stars like Scarlett Johansson playfully teasing them. However, considering some of them, like Meyers, grew up around similar large ships, their amusement isn’t surprising.
The star of *Bupkis* revealed just how large their recent purchase is, mentioning its many seats and multiple floors. They’ve consistently said they’re renovating the property one floor at a time, and will continue to remodel as funds become available, according to the actor.
The venue holds 5,000 people and has four floors. It’s incredible! We’ve currently reopened one floor for use, and we plan to renovate more as funding becomes available.
The scale of it all is incredible. While I haven’t personally been on the Staten Island Ferry, I’ve been on similar boats, and even those aren’t easy to manage. It’s hard to fathom the amount of coordination needed, particularly with Pete Davidson having three films slated for 2025 and Colin Jost returning for another season on *Saturday Night Live*.
Despite the ongoing work to rebuild the inside of the Titanic 2, the team is still actively planning and making progress. Meyers jokingly described their plans as they continue working on different levels of the ship.
You know, I really get a kick out of imagining how people will react when they realize there’s so much more to discover. They’ll be all excited, asking to see everything, but the fun part is being able to say, ‘Sorry, you can’t see the rest just yet!’ It’s a great little tease, and I think audiences will love it.
He put into words what many of us have been feeling – it was a really playful observation. The experience so far has been a bit of a mystery mixed with humor, and I think that’s intentional. However, whenever either of them appears on TV to promote the 2025 guide, they inevitably get asked about it, which could become irritating.
It’s good to hear Jost and Davidson are still making progress, even though their project is a huge undertaking – like the Staten Island Ferry! – and Seth Meyers and his team are playfully teasing them about it.
