Since finishing his long run as Dean Winchester on Supernatural in 2020, Jensen Ackles hasn’t slowed down. He recently appeared in the crime drama Countdown, though it was unfortunately canceled by Prime Video after just one season. He’s currently working on the fifth and final season of The Boys, plus a prequel series called Vought Rising. And if those projects don’t pan out, there’s another show interested in having him star in a spinoff.
Tracker’s Showrunner Would Love An Ackles-Fronted Spinoff
In addition to his work on shows available through Prime Video, Jared Padalecki has been appearing on CBS’s Tracker as Russell Shaw, the brother of Justin Hartley’s character, Colter. Initially introduced as estranged from Colter in season one, the brothers are now developing a closer relationship as their family’s past is revealed. Padalecki appeared in the two-part season three premiere, and the show’s creator, Elwood Reid, hopes to feature him in more episodes than just as a guest star.
I’ve always wanted that to happen. Right now, Jensen is doing great work with Amazon on the The Boys spinoff, Vought Rising. But you never know what the future holds, and it’s okay to hope!
It’s unclear what storylines Reid had planned for a potential show focusing on Russell, but there’s a lot more to explore about his character. It would be interesting to see what Reid gets up to outside of his relationship with his brother. While Jensen Ackles is currently committed to projects with Amazon, it seems Reid would happily create a spinoff series for him if his schedule allowed.
What Ackles Has Going On At Amazon
I’m really excited about what Jared Padalecki and his wife, Danneel Ackles, are doing! They started a production company called Chaos Machine and signed a deal with Amazon in 2023. Basically, Amazon gets first dibs on anything they produce or Jared stars in – like that movie Countdown. And even bigger news, they’re also working on a prequel to The Boys called Vought Rising, which is going to be amazing, and Amazon will be the home for that too!
Announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, the new series will explore the early history of Vought. Described by executive producers Paul Grellong and Eric Kripke as a dark and suspenseful murder mystery set in the 1950s, the show will feature the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront. The cast also includes Mason Dye, Elizabeth Posey, Will Hochman, Jorden Myrie, Nicoló Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri, Brian J. Smith, and KiKi Layne.
It’s tough to say how Vought Rising will do until it starts streaming on Prime Video. But even if it isn’t as popular as the previous show, Jensen Ackles seems to have plenty of other options. Plus, we’ll probably still see Russell Shaw on Tracker, which is good news. For now, fans will have to wait and see how everything turns out.
