I Thought Joe Keery Was The Ultimate Stranger Things Babysitter, But Adorable Video Proves Caleb McLaughlin Gave Him A Run For His Money

After five seasons, Stranger Things wrapped up with the main group of kids growing up. A new behind-the-scenes video shows Caleb McLaughlin took the time to entertain the younger actors on set during a particularly scary scene. While Joe Keery’s Steve became known as the show’s babysitter starting in Season 2, this video makes many viewers wish they’d seen Lucas step into a similar role more often. Check it out!

If you recently finished watching the fifth season of Stranger Things on Netflix, you probably remember the dramatic finale. It definitely didn’t show Lucas leading a clapping game with the kids after they escaped the Mind Flayer’s lair! Throughout the season, Lucas was busy trying to protect his friends from Demogorgons. So, it’s a fun surprise to see Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas, playfully interacting with his young co-stars behind the scenes, away from all the monsters and danger.

The actual series finale was Episode 8 of Season 5, putting an end to theories about a hidden, ‘true’ finale – often referred to as #ConformityGate. The documentary, One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, focused on how the season was made, rather than resolving any lingering plot points. While discussions about the ending’s quality will likely continue (even our team at TopMob has differing opinions on Eleven’s fate), it’s great to see Caleb McLaughlin playfully aiming for the title of Stranger Things‘ number one babysitter.

After the latest season of the show, viewers on TikTok are overwhelmingly supportive of Joe Keery’s character, Steve, seeing him as a father figure to the younger characters. Fans don’t think anyone, including McLaughlin’s character Lucas, will replace Steve as the show’s main babysitter. Here’s a look at some of the comments, slightly edited for readability:

  • @𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞ꨄ: “Mother Steve had to put babysitter Lucas in charge for a bit.”
  • @Brandon Max: “STEVE IS PROUD.”
  • @˚⋆𐙚。𝙼𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚎𝚕𝚎𝚛˚⋆: “Steve is def proud 🥹✌️.”
  • @Not_christopher67: “Steve would be proud.”
  • @sam 💕: “The babies became the babysitters 🥺.”

Because the show’s ending left so much up to interpretation, viewers can imagine all sorts of futures for the characters – Lucas could easily end up babysitting while in college, just as people are speculating about Eleven’s fate. But we already know what’s next for Steve: the ending showed him coaching baseball and teaching sex education to the kids of Hawkins, and he seems like a pretty relaxed teacher!

As a huge fan, I’m still totally hooked on Stranger Things, and it’s amazing to see how much buzz there still is! Just a little over a week after the final episode and the behind-the-scenes documentary dropped, a video featuring Caleb McLaughlin already racked up over 132,000 likes and 1,600 comments on TikTok. Even though some people are still talking about the whole #ConformityGate thing, it’s clear that so many of us are still really invested in the show and the cast.

As of today, Stranger Things is currently number 7 on Netflix’s list of the top 10 TV shows in the U.S. The documentary One Last Adventure is doing even better, holding the #2 spot on the Top 10 Movies list. It’s only behind People We Meet On Vacation (which received mixed reviews from critics), making it the most popular documentary on Netflix right now. If you’re still enjoying the world of Hawkins, the Upside Down, and the Abyss, you can rewatch previous seasons of Stranger Things on Netflix anytime.
