After watching that film, I’m convinced he’d be fantastic playing the bad guy!

Most people remember Andrew Garfield from his role in the Spider-Man films, so he’s often associated with heroic characters. That’s why I was so impressed with his performance in Under the Banner of Heaven, which I thought was a highlight of the show. I’m really hoping this signals a new chapter where he plays more villainous roles.

I Hope After The Hunt Is The Start Of Garfield’s Villain Era

Everyone’s excited about the possibility of Andrew Garfield returning as Spider-Man, but I’m still thinking about his powerful performance as Hank Gibson in After the Hunt. He plays a Yale philosophy professor wrongly accused of sexual assault, and Garfield really captures the character’s emotional turmoil as his life falls apart. He’s the main villain, and Garfield brings a lot of depth to the role.

Over the course of the 139-minute film, Hank consistently avoids taking responsibility for his actions regarding Maggie. After entering Alma’s vacation home without her consent, they have a difficult conversation about their relationship. He repeatedly attempts to have sex with her even after she says no, which proves he doesn’t respect boundaries or consent and ultimately ends their connection.

Andrew Garfield is usually known for being charming and heroic, especially from his time playing Spider-Man. But his performance as Hank in After the Hunt was brilliantly unlikeable, and I’d love to see him take on more villainous roles. It would be fascinating to see him switch gears again, particularly in action or sci-fi films, after spending so much time as a hero in The Amazing Spider-Man movies.

I think Garfield is just incredible – seriously, his performance as Prior Walter in Angels in America was award-winning for a reason! But what really amazes me is how well he can play anyone. He’s so talented, he could totally rock a villainous role. I’m ready to see him play the bad guy – bring on the challenges!

Look, everyone’s been buzzing about Garfield potentially reprising his role as Spider-Man after that incredible No Way Home team-up, and honestly, I get it. That’s what most fans are hoping for. But I’m not entirely convinced that’s the only path for him. He’s proven he can play a fantastic villain, so I’m keeping an open mind – we’ll just have to see which direction he goes in next. It’s a waiting game at this point.
