The Kennedys, while not royalty, were arguably America’s closest equivalent throughout much of the 20th century. Their story, once a remarkable tale of success and influence, quickly turned tragic over a short period. A new Netflix series, simply titled Kennedy, is currently in production and promises to be a compelling watch.
This new series, created by Sam Shaw (of Castle Rock) and starring Michael Fassbender as Joe Kennedy Sr., has a lot of potential. While it’s not certain if it will air in 2026, I predict it will be a huge hit when it finally premieres – and it’s likely to be a gripping, dramatic, and perhaps even unsettling watch. Here’s what makes me excited to tune in with my Netflix account.

Based On What I Know About The Kennedy Family, This Is Going To Be Intense And Dramatic
Growing up just a few hours from where John F. Kennedy was assassinated sparked my interest in the Kennedy family and the romantic image surrounding them. I expect the new Netflix series – different from the one released in 2011 – to be gripping and emotional, even though it won’t cover the events of that tragic day in November 1963.
According to Deadline, a new series planned for October 2025 will be based on Fredrik Logevall’s 2020 biography, JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956. The 792-page book explores the life of John F. Kennedy, along with the complex relationships within the powerful Kennedy family. It’s a story filled with both success and tragedy, particularly when considering the difficult lives of JFK’s siblings, like Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. and Rosemary Kennedy. Their stories highlight the complicated nature of the Kennedy family’s place in American history.

It Feels Like This Could Be Netflix’s American Answer To The Crown
Netflix has had some good historical dramas lately – Death by Lightning stands out – but nothing quite compares to The Crown. I really believe Kennedy has the potential to be their next big hit.
The Kennedy family is instantly recognizable to most Americans, even those not deeply involved in politics. They’ve been a powerful force in American politics for generations, almost like our version of a royal family, and that’s why this show has so much potential.
From what Netflix has shared, the show seems planned to run for several seasons. This makes me optimistic that it will continue the story past the end of the original book, which stops in 1956, and explore events in the 1960s and beyond.
