I Love To See Elle Fanning Getting Praise For Predator: Badlands, But She Has Another 2025 Movie You Need To Seek Out

One of the most enjoyable surprises of 2025 so far has been Predator: Badlands. Released earlier this month, it’s one of the strongest entries in the Predator series (critics and our review agree!). A big reason for this is Elle Fanning’s impressive performance playing the two synthetic characters, Thia and Tessa. If you’re a fan of Fanning, be sure to check out another of her new films released this year.

Elle Fanning Deserves All The Love For Her Predator: Badlands Performance

Before we talk about what she’s doing next, I have to say, she absolutely killed it in Predator: Badlands! I’ve been watching her work since she was a kid, growing up alongside her sister Dakota Fanning, but this was her big sci-fi break, and she really delivered. And get this – she was literally strapped to her co-star for a lot of the filming! Talk about commitment.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress discussed the positive reception to her work in Predator: Badlands. However, she acknowledged that some might not consider it a serious awards contender simply because it’s a genre film. Here’s what she said in response:

I don’t think people should let a film’s genre influence their opinion. A movie is a movie, and should be judged on its own merits. It’s really important to support new and creative filmmakers and give them a chance to be seen. There shouldn’t be strict rules about what makes a good film, and I hope things continue to evolve and become more open-minded.

Beyond winning awards, Predator: Badlands managed a rare feat: it was loved by both audiences and critics, and it made a lot of money. It’s the most financially successful film in the Predator series, having earned $161 million worldwide on a budget of just $100 million (and counting).

She’s Also In The Best Movie I’ve Seen All Year (But, You Probably Haven’t Heard Of It)

Elle Fanning is known for her popular roles, but she also stars in a smaller, critically acclaimed film called Sentimental Value. I saw it about a month ago, and it’s stayed with me ever since. The more I think about it, the more I believe it’s the best movie I’ve seen all year.

The film centers on a strained Norwegian family. Stellan Skarsgard stars as a well-known director and the distant father of two grown daughters, Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Inga (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas). After their mother passes away, he writes a script with Nora in mind for his first film in years, hoping she’ll take the lead role. When she turns it down, he casts an American actress (Fanning) instead, but he feels something is missing.

This is a movie you really need to see in theaters when you get the chance (it’s starting with limited showings but will be available in more places soon). It’s a deeply moving story about family, what we leave behind, and the often-complex relationship between fathers and daughters. Director Joachim Trier handles the material with a gentle touch, making it stand out from most dramas. If you’re familiar with his film The Worst Person In The World, you’ll have a good sense of his style.

If you enjoy watching films that are likely to be nominated for Oscars, this movie is almost guaranteed to be a contender for Best Picture, and likely in other top categories like Best Director. Elle Fanning is also predicted to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Her performance in this film, Sentimental Value, is excellent, and fans can look forward to seeing her as Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games movie next year!
