HBO is continuing the story of Westeros after the controversial ending of Game of Thrones, and the new show maintains the original series’ serious and often dark atmosphere. However, the recently released trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms unexpectedly features a lot of humor. Considering how intense House of the Dragon Season 2 was, I wasn’t expecting any laughs, and the trailer actually reminded me of the movie A Knight’s Tale. You can watch the trailer above!
The new trailer doesn’t have the iconic Queen song “We Will Rock You” playing during a tournament scene, nor does it feature a surprising dance sequence like in A Knight’s Tale. However, the show does offer some humor, with jokes that feel surprisingly modern for a fantasy setting. While this kind of anachronism—like the coffee cup mishap in Game of Thrones—might not fit the tone of those shows, it seems perfectly suited for the upcoming Dunk and Egg series and could be exactly what the world of Westeros needs.
Like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon before it, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will air on HBO and be available to stream on Max (formerly HBO Max) on Sunday nights. The first episode premieres on Sunday, January 18th at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, and you can also watch Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon on the streaming service.
