Netflix has a huge selection of Christmas shows, and one of the very best is a surprisingly delightful Italian sitcom called I Hate Christmas. It’s not groundbreaking or famous, but it’s incredibly charming and sure to win over even the most cynical viewers with its sweet, romantic stories.
Despite its name, I Hate Christmas is actually a cheerful and heartwarming show, filled with likable characters and cozy storylines – perfect for watching on a cold winter night. Think of it as a sitcom version of the popular romantic comedy The Holiday, but set in the beautiful canal town of Chioggia, Italy.
December brings a lot of new Christmas TV shows, but this one is particularly charming. It follows a kind, unassuming nurse named Gianna who’s hoping to find love. She often overthinks things, which isn’t surprising given her traditional family, and the show handles this struggle with a perfect touch of humor.
I Hate Christmas Is Netflix’s Best TV Show For The Holiday Season
If you’re looking for something to watch with Netflix’s Christmas movies, I Hate Christmas is a fun and charming choice. Unlike many Christmas shows on the platform that are either too simple or aimed at kids, this Italian sitcom offers entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
The show’s main character starts out truly disliking Christmas, which feels realistic, and thankfully, it avoids becoming overly sentimental. Plus, the characters in I Hate Christmas feel genuine and are more complex than you usually find in holiday stories.
This Venice-Based Italian Sitcom Is A Hilarious Hidden Gem
While most of I Hate Christmas was filmed in Chioggia, a town about an hour south of Venice, it shares some of the same filming locations as Kenneth Branagh’s latest Agatha Christie film, A Haunting in Venice. Additionally, a small number of scenes for the show were shot directly in Venice.
I was completely charmed by this Italian sitcom! Yes, the Venetian setting is gorgeous, but it’s so much more than just a pretty face. Every episode had me genuinely laughing, often thanks to Beatrice Arnera’s character, Titti – she’s a real standout. But what I loved most was how genuinely heartwarming it was. It’s sweet and funny without ever feeling cheesy or falling into those predictable romantic comedy traps. It just feels… real and lovely.

Based on the Norwegian show Home for Christmas (which recently concluded after four seasons), I Hate Christmas (known as Odio il Natale in Italian) is a new Netflix sitcom. While inspired by the original, this version tells a different story and is generally considered funnier and more heartwarming.
Pilar Fogliati, who voices Gianna in Inside Out 2, is incredibly charming and engaging, and really draws you into the story of I Hate Christmas. While the plot can be a little predictable, the movie’s gentle humor and heartwarming nature make it enjoyable.
This holiday sitcom is a refreshing change from many Christmas shows that focus on shallow corporate themes. Netflix really hit the mark with I Hate Christmas, and anyone who finds it will likely feel the same way – it’s a true hidden gem.
