Be warned, there are minor spoilers for the movie Fackham Hall ahead! If you’re planning to see this fun film, it’s currently playing in theaters and scheduled for release in 2025.
Reviews of Fackham Hall show it’s a very silly, *Downton Abbeystyle parody packed with jokes from beginning to end. Some of those jokes are genuinely funny, some rely on wordplay, and others are definitely inappropriate. Actress Thomasin McKenzie remembered one particularly risqué scene fondly, but also admitted it initially worried her.
As with other great comedies, like the recently rebooted The Naked Gun, Fackham Hall is packed with jokes, often delivered at a rapid pace. I asked stars Thomasin McKenzie (Rose Davenport) and Tom Felton (Archibald) about their favorite funny moments or props. McKenzie immediately shared a story about a gag involving a torn piece of paper, but said it was too complicated to explain fully in our TopMob interview.
I can’t say it on camera, but when Eric rips a photo, and something…
She wasn’t able to explain it herself, but here’s what the joke is about. It involves a photo Eric (played by Ben Radcliffe), her character’s boyfriend, is holding. The photo shows Poppy (Emma Laird) and Rose, with the caption “Peacock & Sleater” underneath. In the movie, Eric tears the photo in half, keeping the side with Rose on it.

However, this also reveals the letters directly beneath, which together spell out a very crude and funny phrase – you can see it for yourself in the image. I found it absolutely hilarious, and apparently, Tom Felton did too, as he shared:
It was a really standard situation. I only joined the film shoot halfway through – I think about four weeks in. So, I’d read a lot of the jokes in the script, but I hadn’t actually seen them performed yet. And that specific bit, the one where [starts laughing]…
It’s genuinely funny, and like other clever parodies that surprised me, this joke completely threw me for a loop – in a good way! Apparently, it had the same effect on the actress from Last Night in Soho.
After Felton joked about the, shall we say, suggestive part of the story, McKenzie admitted it bothered her a little, telling me:
I was surprised to see text added below my picture and wasn’t sure what it meant at first. Once I understood, I was a little worried and wondered if I should address it. I’m still unsure about it being public.
The joke in the movie really caught me off guard – it felt completely unexpected. I understand why she was surprised, especially since she hadn’t anticipated it. But as Felton pointed out, it was worth it, because the moment is genuinely hilarious.
This surprising moment is just one of many funny and playful jokes packed into a movie that’s delightfully over-the-top.
