Hytale Multiplayer Guide: How To Play With Friends

Okay, so I’ve been playing Hytale, and it’s seriously cool! It’s finally out in early access after being worked on for ages. The team behind it actually used to make Minecraft mods, and you can really see that influence. It’s got that familiar sandbox feel, but they’ve added RPG elements and, of course, mod support if you want to get into that later. Even though it’s not fully released yet, there’s already a ton to do, and the best part is you don’t have to go it alone!

Hytale lets you play with friends in a variety of ways. Here’s a guide on how to add friends, team up in worlds, and understand how those worlds function.

How to add, invite, and join friends in Hytale

Hytale handles connecting with friends a bit differently than many other sandbox games. Currently, there isn’t a traditional friends list feature. This means you can’t add people as friends and then directly invite them to your game world using a menu.

Hytale lets you share server codes with others, allowing them to instantly join your game server. Keep in mind that these codes include your IP address, so it’s important to only share them with people you trust.

To send out a server code, follow these steps:

  • Open the main menu once you’ve started a world in Hytale and then select the “Online Play” tab
  • Find the option for “Allow other players to join” and enable it
  • Save this setting, and then you’ll see a code appear on your screen
  • Copy this code to your clipboard and then paste it somewhere or send it to a friend directly

Alternatively, you can join a friend’s world using a code by following these steps:

  • Open the main menu and select the “Servers” tab
  • Choose the option to “Join via code” and paste/type in the code you received from a friend
  • Press “Connect” to immediately join that friend’s server

After you or a friend gets a server code, you generally don’t need to use it again unless someone is removed from the server. If that happens, the code will need to be re-entered to rejoin.

In Hytale, worlds are generally only accessible when the person who created them is playing. This means if your friend hosts a world, you can only join and play with them while they’re online.

The main rule applies to joining worlds, but servers are different. Hytale allows players to create and run their own servers, though this comes with a lot of rules to follow. Setting up a server is more complex than simply joining a friend’s world. However, the developers have stated that servers generally perform better and can support more players than regular worlds, which is a definite advantage for those interested in managing one.
