Hytale Dev Is Pricing The Game As “Aggressively Low As Possible”

Hytale, a game in development for ten years, was initially canceled, and the studio creating it, Hypixel, was going to shut down. However, Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme stepped in, bought the rights to Hytale from Riot Games, and promised to release Hypixel in early access. Now, the price for the game has been revealed.

Hypixel announced on social media that Hytale will cost $20. They also plan to offer more expensive versions of the game with extra features like cosmetic items, which fans can buy to help support the development team. After sharing the price, Collins-Laflamme explained that this decision is a financial risk for him, as he’s already personally invested a lot of his own money into funding both the company and the game’s development.

Collins-Laflamme announced on X that they’re intentionally keeping the price of Hytale very low. They explained that after buying back the game and preparing it for early access with a team that’s now 50 people, they’re personally taking a financial risk to deliver on their commitment. Because the game is still under development – built on a foundation from over four years ago – and isn’t yet polished, charging a higher price didn’t feel right. Collins-Laflamme believes the team will continue to improve the game quickly, moving from good to great, and they have a clear vision for its future.

Collins-Laflamme explained that they’re aiming to get as many people playing as possible, even with the current economic challenges. Hypixel has also shared an update on the progress of the modding feature, noting that it still requires significant development. While Hytale doesn’t have a firm release date yet, Collins-Laflamme suggests that the game will enter early access fairly soon.
