‘Hysteria!’ Canceled After One Season at Peacock (EXCLUSIVE)

As a passionate cinephile, I’m deeply saddened to share the news that my beloved “Hysteria!” horror-thriller series from Peacock, which had only just begun its chilling tale in its first season, has been unfortunately canceled. This heartbreaking update comes directly from my exclusive sources.

The show made its debut on a streaming platform in October 2024, marking its single season. Initially commissioned for series back in August 2022 and filming started in the following year, production halted after a few episodes due to writer’s and actor’s strikes. However, it resumed production towards the end of 2023.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder about the viewership numbers for “Hysteria!” on Peacock, as they don’t disclose such data. Yet, its absence from the weekly Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts upon release suggests that it didn’t garner a massive audience initially. However, it’s important to note that it received high praise from critics, boasting a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The official series description states:

During the late 1980s’ ‘Satanic Panic’, when a popular high school quarterback mysteriously vanishes, an underdog heavy metal band of misfits sees an opportunity. They decide to exploit the town’s newfound fascination with the occult by creating a reputation as a Satanic metal group. However, a string of peculiar murders, abductions, and alleged supernatural occurrences ignites a chain of events that eventually points back to them, triggering a leather-clad witch hunt.

The series featured main cast members Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. Bruce Campbell, Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, and Jessica Treska appeared frequently in the series as recurring characters.

As a movie reviewer, let me share my thoughts on this production: I had the pleasure of being part of the team that brought this series to life, with Matthew Scott Kane and David Goodman penning the script and serving as executive producers. John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner also took on the role of executive producers, with the latter two doing so through their company, Good Fear Content. Scott Stoops served as the supervising producer under Good Fear’s guidance. Jordan Vogt-Roberts was an executive producer and helmed the direction of the first and final episodes. The entire project was produced by UCP. In other words, this series was a collaborative effort from a talented group of creatives who poured their hearts into bringing this story to life.
