As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve secured the distribution rights in France for Huo Meng’s Berlinale competition film, “Living the Land.” This movie will make its world debut on Friday during its premiere! The deal was sealed at the commencement of the European Film Market by our world sales agency, M-Appeal. Can’t wait to bring this incredible cinematic experience to French audiences!
In 1991, during a time of significant social and economic transformation in China, the movie “Living the Land” tells the story of 10-year-old Chuang who finds himself stuck between the heavy influence of tradition and the allure of modernization. A sneak peek of this film was shared on EbMaster today.
American Releasing Productions (ARP) now holds the rights for the movie, planning a theatrical release in France. This distributor has played a significant role in introducing Asian cinema to French viewers, showcasing esteemed films like Zhang Yimou’s “Raise the Red Lantern” (Venice Silver Lion), “The Story of Qiu Ju” (Venice Golden Lion), “To Live” (Cannes Grand Prize), Chen Kaige’s “Farewell My Concubine” (Cannes Palme d’Or), and Wong Kar-wai’s works, ranging from “Days of Being Wild” to “Happy Together.
Michèle Halberstadt, the CEO of ARP, shared with EbMaster that they were captivated by the stunning and profound portrayal of a rural Chinese village in ‘Living the Land.’ This immersive and touching experience offers a deep look into the daily lives of the villagers,” said Michèle Halberstadt. Previously, ARP collaborated with M-Appeal on the French release of “Return to Dust.”
The CEO of ARP told EbMaster that they were fascinated by a captivating and emotional film called ‘Living the Land’ which showcases life in a Chinese rural village. Previously, ARP had partnered with M-Appeal to release “Return to Dust” in France.)
The movie signifies Huo Meng’s second call to the Berlinale, as his debut film “Crossing the Border — Zhaoguan” was screened there in 2020. Jia Zhangke invited him to be a part of the special program “On Transmission,” which was organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the festival.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to share that the captivating film “Living the Land” is under the executive production of none other than Yao Chen, a renowned actress and producer from China. Zhang Fan takes on the role of the producer for this project. The impressive lineup of production companies includes Floating Light Film and Culture, Shanghai Film Group, Phoenix Legend Films, Bad Rabbit Pictures, and Lianray Pictures.
