Hungry tourists humiliated after taking over buffet at funeral thinking it’s a restaurant

A group of tourists from Europe mistakenly wandered into a funeral in Thailand, thinking it was a place to get food.

A video recently went viral showing tourists from Germany and the Netherlands mistakenly arriving at a funeral, thinking it was a food festival or buffet. Surprisingly, instead of being asked to leave, the attendees were offered food.

A video of an embarrassing moment quickly became popular online, but not because of the blunder itself. People were touched by the surprising kindness shown by the people involved.

Two German tourists mistakenly walked into a funeral reception on January 31st. Seeing tables filled with food, they thought it was a festival or buffet and began eating.

Tourists told to stay and eat after accidentally crashing funeral

Charantorn Chaloemkiad, who was at the wake, said the two individuals asked him if they were in a “food court.”

The tourists said they were drawn in by the delicious smell of food from a nearby night market, thinking it was open for business. When they realized it was actually a funeral, they were mortified and immediately apologized, starting to leave. But the family hosting the funeral surprised them by smiling and inviting them to stay and share a meal.

To help everyone relax, the sister of the person who had passed away brought the visitors iced milk and warm, freshly fried dough sticks. After they finished eating, the visitors thanked the family and left quietly.

But that wasn’t the only mix-up.

The very next day, three brothers from the Netherlands made the same mistake.

Mistaking the busy place for a restaurant, they asked for drinks and a menu. Even though a memorial service was happening, the family kindly made space and provided them with a complete meal.

Charantorn remembered people being deeply touched by the act, with some commenting that Thai people are the most kind-hearted in the world.

Fortunately, the tourists’ error didn’t lead to any serious problems, unlike those instances where vacations went horribly wrong.
