Hunger Games: Sunrise On the Reaping Fan Casting Winner Revealed

The fan-chosen cast for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has been announced. The new Hunger Games book came out in March, and shortly after, the movie adaptation began announcing its cast. The movie is currently being filmed and is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.

Last May, a contest was launched allowing fans to potentially appear in the movie Sunrise on the Reaping. Participants could submit videos explaining why they’d be a good fit for a role, even just as an extra.

Devon Singletary has been cast as the winner! He’ll be playing Blair, a friend of both Haymitch Abernathy and Katniss Everdeen’s father, Burdock, from District 12. The casting announcement followed the format of previous videos, starting with a close-up of a page from the book featuring the character’s name, which then dramatically burned away to reveal the actor.

The announcement of the cast included a montage of all the audition videos, before focusing on Singletary’s. He then introduced himself, and the video showed the moment he found out he’d won. Later, fellow cast members Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, and Whitney Peak joined him to offer their congratulations.

I was so excited to hear that Zada, who’s amazing as Haymitch, told Singletary he got the part of Blair! The video ends with a glimpse of Singletary having a blast on his first day filming – it’s great to see! You can check it out below.

Everyone expected the competition winner to have a small, background role. It’s a pleasant surprise, then, to learn that Singletary will play a character with a significant connection to both Haymitch and Katniss’s father. He’ll have lines to deliver and will appear alongside Zada and Scott Greenan, who plays Burdock.

I’m so excited about the cast they’re building for this movie! Alongside Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, they’ve added Viola Davis, and honestly, the list just keeps getting better. Jesse Plemons is going to be Plutarch Heavensbee, and Elle Fanning will play Effie Trinket – perfect casting, if you ask me! Plus, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Billy Porter as Magno Stift? Seriously, this is a dream team!

Francis Lawrence, the director of all the Hunger Games films after the first one, will direct the new movie, Sunrise on the Reaping. He’ll be working with Singletary on scenes showing what life was like for Haymitch in District 12 before he was chosen for the 50th Hunger Games, also called the second Quarter Quell.
