Hulu Cancels Hitman TV Series From John Wick Creator

Hulu has cancelled its planned TV series based on the Hitman video game franchise. This news comes just days after Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed she wouldn’t be involved, as confirmed by the show’s executive producer and writer, Derek Kolstad.

I recently spoke with Derek Kolstad at SXSW, and he gave a direct update on the Hulu series based on Hitman. He stated simply, “It’s dead in the water.”

It’s really disappointing, like a painful blow. These things are so uncertain these days, and it doesn’t seem like that project will move forward. Still, I’m very passionate about the game and the character. I can write the script, but getting it produced is the hard part. You need to actually make the movie or show, and unfortunately, nothing is happening with it right now.

I couldn’t believe how quickly things blew up on social media after Sarah Michelle Gellar shared the news! Everyone immediately flooded Hulu’s posts with their reactions, and honestly, a lot of people were threatening to cancel their subscriptions – it was a pretty intense moment for fans.

It’s unclear if fans of the Hitman series will react the same way, but they’ll likely be disappointed to learn the live-action show is effectively canceled as it currently exists. A key advantage Hitman had was Derek Kolstad, the writer of the 2014 film John Wick, involved in its creative development.
