During its time in theaters, Deadpool & Wolverine broke several records, but Hugh Jackman surprisingly lost one to Wesley Snipes. Now that Jackman knows this, he jokingly said he would have prevented Snipes from returning as Blade in Deadpool’s first MCU appearance just to hold onto the record himself.
What Hugh Jackman said Wesley Snipes and Deadpool & Wolverine
During an interview with BuzzFeed UK to promote his new movie, Song Sung Blue, Hugh Jackman discovered he previously held a Guinness World Record. He had the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero playing Wolverine, until Wesley Snipes surpassed him by appearing as Blade in Deadpool 3.
When asked about letting Wesley Snipes appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman playfully pretended to be upset and joked that he absolutely regrets the decision. He said if he’d known Snipes was going to be involved, he would have prevented it and removed him from the script.
The Oscar nominee continued the joke by pulling out his phone and pretending to unfriend the person he was talking about, saying, “I’m deleting him right now.”
The interviewer asked Jackman if he wanted to reclaim the title of ‘Sexiest Man Alive.’ Jackman jokingly replied that it had now become a matter of who would live longer, and he predicted Wesley Snipes would win.
Hugh Jackman first played Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men, just two years after Wesley Snipes debuted as Blade. After Blade: Trinity in 2004, many thought Snipes was done with the role, making Jackman the actor who had played a Marvel superhero in live-action films for the longest time.
Because Wesley Snipes is reprising his role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman no longer holds the record for most appearances as Wolverine. As of now, there are rumors that both Jackman and Snipes will return as their characters, with recent speculation suggesting Snipes will appear as Blade one final time in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
