Recent comments from Hugh Jackman have sparked even more excitement about his potential return as Wolverine. His words have gotten fans talking about when they might see the character again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and people are eagerly looking for clues about what Marvel has planned.
Hugh Jackman on if he’ll return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine
Hugh Jackman hasn’t officially said he’ll return as Wolverine in future Marvel movies, but he hasn’t ruled it out either. When asked about the possibility on The Graham Norton Show, he simply said, “Maybe,” and added that he’s done with making definitive statements about it.
Hugh Jackman explained that he was sincere when he previously said he’d retired from playing the character. He admitted, “I truly meant it when I said ‘never,’ but I eventually changed my mind.” He also playfully suggested that studios could now use AI to create a digital version of him, joking he’s provided enough footage for them to work with.
Hugh Jackman recently discussed his return as Wolverine in the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). He had previously said goodbye to the character with what seemed like a final appearance in 2017’s Logan, where Wolverine died. Jackman initially believed he was done with the role, but he decided to come back when he was offered the opportunity to work alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.
In a 2024 interview with Fandango, Jackman explained that while driving, he suddenly had a strong feeling he wanted to make a movie with Ryan Reynolds. He emphasized that he truly believed he was finished with the role after his previous film, but this new opportunity felt right.
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds had been talking about a team-up between their characters, Wolverine and Deadpool, for years. When Disney bought Fox, it finally opened the door for the crossover to happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly he’d been hoping for this pairing for as long as he could remember.
Despite Marvel’s silence, rumors persist about Wolverine appearing in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, potentially including ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
