The newest installment in the popular military shooter series has had a fantastic launch. It’s already broken player count records, nearly doubling the highest number of concurrent players ever seen on Steam, according to SteamDB data.
Electronic Arts’ new major shooter game launched last week on October 10th and quickly became incredibly popular, reaching a peak of 747,440 concurrent players on Steam just hours after release. This makes it the 14th most popular game ever on Steam, based on peak player count. Considering this number doesn’t include players on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, the total number of players at launch was likely over 1 million. For comparison, the most players *Call of Duty* has ever had on Steam at one time was 491,670 on November 20, 2022.
Battlefield 6 is Having a Great Launch So Far
So far, Electronic Arts appears to be handling the development of *Battlefield 6* very well. They’ve actively collected and used player feedback *before* the game even launches, which is a big change. In the past, *Battlefield* games were notorious for rocky launches, plagued by crashes, server problems, poor online performance, and numerous bugs. It had become a running joke how unreliable and unpolished the games were when they first came out.
Unlike many new game releases, *Battlefield 6* has launched with remarkably few bugs and crashes. Both players and critics have generally given the game’s online multiplayer a very positive reception. While the single-player campaign isn’t the strongest part of the game, most players are focused on the online experience, and *Battlefield 6* is delivering a great one so far.
EA Needs to Maintain Momentum with Battlefield 6
Based on what we’ve seen so far, *Battlefield 6* appears to be a significant improvement over previous games in the series. With exciting new modes like Escalation and Breakthrough, along with well-balanced weapons and impressive graphics, it looks like a fantastic game.
EA recently announced that Season 1 for *Battlefield 6* starts on October 28th and lasts through December – that’s just around the corner! This first season will offer a variety of free content, including three new maps, fresh game modes, special events, and new weapons, all designed to keep players engaged. While EA hasn’t revealed a release date yet, a battle royale mode is also planned for the game, giving players even more to anticipate.
