DYNASTY DETAILS

A trailer for the Netflix documentary series titled “The Roshans,” which delves into three generations of Bollywood royalty, has been unveiled. This intriguing project, helmed by Shashi Ranjan and co-produced by Rakesh Roshan, delves into the profound impact the family has had on Indian cinema since the 1950s.

The documentary follows the musical family’s voyage, starting with Roshan Lal Nagrath, a renowned composer as Roshan, moving through his sons – actor-director Rakesh Roshan (creator of the “Krrish” series) and composer Rajesh Roshan (“Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai”), and finally reaching their grandson, Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan (“War”). The documentary delves into their combined influence on Indian cinema through music, direction, and acting.

Professionals in the film industry, such as director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actor Shah Rukh Khan, share their insights. In particular, Khan reminisces about how Rakesh Roshan inspired him during the creation of the hit movie “Karan Arjun.”

In this rephrased version, I aimed to make the sentence more conversational and easy-to-understand by replacing formal terms with simpler ones. For instance, “provide commentary” was changed to “share their insights”, and “discussing” was replaced with “reminisces about”. The names of the individuals involved were kept as they appeared in the original sentence for clarity.

The Roshans” delves into the journey of Hrithik Roshan’s acting career, starting with his first film, “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai,” and moving forward to notable productions like “Koi Mil Gaya,” “Dhoom 2,” “Krrish,” “Super 30,” “War,” and “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

The four-part series streams from Jan. 17.

ROYAL RETURN

The esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced its cast for “Edward II,” a play by Christopher Marlowe, which will be performed at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from February 21st to April 5th. This production is significant as it’s the first time the RSC has staged this play since 1990.

Daniel Evans, one of the co-artistic directors at RSC, is set to assume the lead role, signifying his comeback to acting following a 14-year break. Evans, who partnered with Tamara Harvey in RSC’s leadership in 2023, last graced the stage in “Company” at Sheffield’s Crucible back in 2011.

The play unfolds around King Edward II’s risky choice to promote his lover, Gaveston, to a powerful position, igniting a civil war that could lead to the fall of the monarchy. Fresh recruit Eloka Ivo will mark his first performance at the RSC by portraying Gaveston, alongside other newcomers, Ruta Gedmintas known for “His Dark Materials,” who takes on Queen Isabella, and Enzo Cilenti from “The Crown,” who plays Mortimer.

Daniel Raggett, who was nominated for the title of emerging talent at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in 2022, is set to take the director’s chair. The artistic crew features Leslie Travers responsible for set and costume arrangements, while Tim Lutkin manages the lighting department.
