How to access Slumber Islands

To unlock the content on Slumber Islands, you need to be playing the latest version of the game. Specifically, you must have version 3.0 or higher. You can easily check your current version on the main menu loading screen – look for a number starting with ‘3’ in the upper right corner.

Also, because this is played online, you’ll need a current Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the Slumber Islands content.

To continue, you’ll need a letter from Luna inviting you to the Slumber Islands. Returning players might already have this letter, but if you’re new or haven’t visited Luna before, you’ll first need to complete a few steps to meet her.

To unlock dreams in the game, you’ll first need to upgrade your tent to a full house. Once you have a house, put a bed inside and go to sleep. This will introduce you to Luna, who will explain how dreams work in Animal Crossing.

When she asks how she can help, select “I’d like to share a dream.” This will save your island to Luna’s dream library and create a special code representing your island in the dream. Once that’s done, you can wake up.

The next day, you’ll get a letter from Luna inviting you to Slumber Islands! Once you receive it, you’ll see a new option when you go to sleep called “It’s slumber time.” Selecting this option will begin your adventure in Slumber Islands.

Slumber Islands explained

Slumber Islands offers a relaxed, creative experience where you can design and build on your own island or collaborate with friends. It’s similar to a ‘Creative mode’ in games like Minecraft, letting you focus on building and decorating without worrying about gathering resources or completing tasks. We’ll share more details about playing with others later.

You’re able to build a maximum of three Slumber Islands. When you begin a new island, you can select from three different sizes.

  • Small: This is around the size of the Mystery Tour islands
  • Medium: Larger than a Mystery Tour island, but smaller than your home island
  • Large: Close in size to your home island

Next, you can choose the design of your island. You’ll find different options, like islands with or without rivers, and even completely flat islands if you prefer a simple layout.

If you hit the three-island limit, remember you can always delete an island and begin fresh.

Naming your island

In Disney Dreamlight Valley, you can personalize your island by giving it a name! You don’t have to do this immediately – feel free to wait until you’ve had time to think or collaborate with friends. When you’re ready, just talk to Luna and select the option to name your Slumber Island.

Decorating your Slumber Islands

After choosing the size and shape of your island, you can start decorating! You can place any item you’ve already collected in your catalog, and it won’t use up any materials. Feel free to add as many of each item as you like.

There are several things you can do on Slumber Island. This includes the following customization:

  • Interact with the wardrobe on the dock to change your appearance
  • Terraform the island by adding or removing cliffs
  • Move or redesign your house
  • Add or demolish bridges and inclines by talking to Lloid.
  • Place any furniture, plants, and other decor from your catalog
  • Change the time and weather (press Left on the D-pad)

Keep in mind that Slumber Island exists within a dream. Anything that happens here won’t affect your real life, so:

  • You can’t permanently change your appearance here
  • Nothing you harvest or catch on the island will return home with you

Add residents to Slumber Islands

You can bring residents from your main island to your Slumber Island. Just go to the Residents tab in your inventory on Slumber Island to choose who to bring, and you can easily remove them whenever you like.

Inviting or joining friends

I’m so excited about Slumber Island! It’s a game where you and your friends can build and decorate an island together. Just a heads-up though – everyone who wants to play online and join your island will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

If everyone has a Nintendo Switch Online membership and the latest version of the game for Switch 2, you can play Slumber Islands with up to 12 players.

If you’re playing on any original Switch model – whether it’s the standard Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED – you can play with up to eight people at once.
