How to use amiibo in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is out now globally! The game supports amiibo figures – not only those from the Zelda series, but any amiibo you own. This guide will explain how to unlock amiibo functionality in the game, how to scan your figures, and what rewards you can earn. Don’t worry, this guide won’t spoil anything about the story!

When do you unlock amiibo support in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment?

At the start of the game, you’ll watch some introductory cut-scenes before taking control of Zelda. After exploring for a short time and completing a couple of tutorial battles, you’ll receive a healing item called a “Special Ration.” Continue playing through the tutorial and clearing the map until you reach the designated area. Once you’ve finished a few more battles and completed the “Art of the Blade” mission, you’ll unlock the ability to save your progress, return to the main menu, and use amiibo features in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.

On the main menu, you’ll find an ‘amiibo’ option at the bottom, just below ‘Options’. Selecting this lets you scan amiibo figures – I’ve tested it with figures from The Legend of Zelda and other series, and it works with all of them.

How many amiibo can you scan in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment?

You can scan an individual amiibo once per day and up to five amiibo in total per day.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment amiibo rewards

I tested several amiibo figures, including those from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Link and Zelda), as well as figures from the Bayonetta, Dark Souls, and Fire Emblem series. The Zelda amiibo gave me three sets of in-game items, while each of the others only provided one set. Nintendo says these amiibo can provide crafting materials and other useful items to help you on your adventure!

You can find screenshots from my scan results for a few of the amiibo above.
