The highly anticipated first DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign, ‘The Forsaken Hollows’, is now available! It introduces a dynamic new area, along with two challenging bosses – the Balancer and the Dreglord – and two new characters: the Scholar and the Undertaker. Like the Duchess and Revenant before them, you’ll need to fulfill specific requirements to unlock these characters, and we’re here to guide you through the process.
Scholar and Undertaker in Elden Ring Nightreign
Scholar is a support character who excels at using items and applying different status effects. His strong Arcane abilities allow him to be very effective in this role. He can also redirect damage from multiple enemies onto a single target. This makes him a great choice for players who like to enhance allies and weaken opponents with buffs and debuffs.

The Undertaker is a great choice for players who prefer an attacking, fast-paced style. She can inflict a lot of damage and is significantly quicker than other characters. A unique feature is that her powerful ultimate ability recharges whenever her teammates use theirs. As she levels up, increasing her strength and faith allows her to effectively wield powerful weapons and cast spells.
How to unlock both characters in Elden Ring Nightreign
To access these features, make sure you’ve downloaded the downloadable content (DLC), especially if you’re playing on a console. If you already bought it, you might need to download it separately.
- Defeat Nightlord Tricephalos at least once.
- Talk to Iron Menial in Roundtable Hold.
- Go to Small Jar Merchant and open the door next to him.
- Fight a weaker version of Dreglord. Fortunately, you don’t have to win this duel to proceed to the next stage.
- After the fight is over, talk to the characters in the room. This will unlock them.
