As a seasoned Path of Exile 2 veteran with countless hours under my belt and more than a few boss fights to my name, let me tell you about Balbala the Traitor – a battle that will make even the most hardened players question their choices in life. This elusive foe, hiding in the Traitor’s Passage during Act 2, is a true test of patience and reflexes, leaving the time-limited fight with Mektul in the Molten Vault feeling like a leisurely stroll through the park.
In Path of Exile 2, some boss battles don’t have obvious signs or user-friendly mechanics, and Balbala the Traitor is one such instance. Encountered in the Traitor’s Passage during Act 2, this battle can make the time-restricted fight with Mektul in the Molten Vault seem like a leisurely stroll. Here’s some essential information to counter Balbala’s poison attack, as well as other valuable tips.
Balbala’s poison attack in PoE 2
As Balbala mysteriously disappears, and poisonous gas starts filling the arena, I’d recommend circling around to track him down. During this invisible phase, having a good pair of headphones with spatial audio can really help in locating him again when you get close enough. Touching Balbala will halt the spread of the gas, but he’ll retaliate instantly with a powerful area-of-effect attack. It’s best not to engage and instead focus on swiftly rolling away to keep yourself safe.
Tips for Balbala boss fight in PoE 2
In the game, Balbala’s attack area is abnormally compact, making it tough to connect blows, and this becomes especially tricky when trying to strike quickly with close combat attacks against this swift-moving opponent.
Here are some other tips to help you with this fight:
- Balbala throws coins that spawn yellow runes. Stepping on a rune prevents an additional enemy from spawning but triggers a damaging AoE attack. Roll away immediately after touching the rune. The coin disappears once the rune is deactivated.
- Alternatively, you can allow the coins to spawn enemies to use them to trigger On-Kill buffs or other skills. But be cautious. If you don’t control the spawns, you could quickly become overwhelmed by the enemies.
- Balbala is weak to cold damage but resistant to fire.
- If you’re a Warrior with a shield, make heavy use of it in this fight. It’s great for blocking yellow daggers, preventing poison debuffs, and more. Shield Charge is especially handy, use it to quickly escape the rain of yellow daggers or to pass over yellow runes.
