In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, your chosen clan initially determines which powers you unlock. However, you can still learn powers from other clans, though it will require more ability points and a special currency earned through Blood Resonance activities. Luckily, you can lower the cost of these abilities by completing side quests to build Affinity with each clan.
As a player, it’s a little tricky figuring out your Clan Affinity. The game doesn’t actually *show* your progress. You’ll only notice it when the cost of an ability goes down and it specifically says “Clan Affinity” next to it – that’s how you know you’ve leveled up! Once you unlock the system, you can usually do one unique side quest for each contact, though there are a few exceptions, like Fletcher’s quest if you’re playing as Ventrue – his one focuses on collecting things instead.
How to gain clan affinity
After becoming the new Sheriff of Seattle, you will gain access to all of the clan representatives.
There are six total:
- Silky, the Brujah contact located at The Dutchman
- Patience, the Toreador contact located at Aurora Pawn
- Niko, the Banu Haqim contact located at Aurora Pawn
- Mrs. Thorn, the Tremere contact located at Wake the Dead
- Fletcher, the Ventrue contact located at Makom Bar
- Onda, the Lasombra contact located at Glacier Hotel

Out of the six characters, three – Niko, Mrs. Thorn, and Onda – will offer you side quests each night to increase your Clan Affinity. Completing these quests requires you to advance the main storyline. The other three – Patience, Silky, and Fletcher – have different requirements. Patience asks for nine collectible crosses hidden throughout the game, while Fletcher wants you to find and destroy hidden Anarch graffiti using your vampire senses and telekinesis. Silky simply requires you to bring her collectibles as well.
Silky’s side quest—collecting security cameras hidden around the city—unlocks much later in the game compared to other side quests. You’ll get a notification on your map when it becomes available, and this happens after you progress to the main quest called “We Don’t Do Ghost Stories.”
You need to collect all the items before you can submit them, but you’ll earn Clan Affinity points as you find each one.

As you build up your relationship with a clan, the skill point cost for their abilities will decrease, and you’ll see a message explaining this benefit comes from your clan connection. There’s no other way to track your progress with the clan. You *can* complete side quests for your clan’s representative, but these quests won’t lower the skill point cost of their abilities.
